Our events at Morehouse College are a vital tool in celebrating and communicating the magic and mystique of Morehouse. Our events give voice to the passion we have for all that we do. This Events Manager position is key to our success and requires a highly organized, creative, detail-oriented, and motivated person to serve as lead for event planning, management, production, and sponsorship.
This person will need to be a proactive, organized, and collaborative professional with exceptional attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills who can partner with a diverse range of stakeholders. The Event Manager is responsible for admissions-driven, in-person and virtual events that introduce Morehouse College to prospective students, their families, and key influencers, as well as admissions-driven events that assist with yielding the quantity and quality of new students expected.
Admissions events include Counselor Symposium, Open House, ASW (admitted students’ weekend), Jacks in the House, Help Center, virtual and in-person recruiting events, among others. The Event Manager will also serve as liaison from the OSMCA division to other departments running Morehouse signature events, including but not limited to Commencement, Homecoming, New Student Orientation, and more.
The position deals with a wide range of responsibilities that include event theme building, creating event materials, communicating with event attendees, marketing, contracting vendors, seeking and securing sponsorships, coordinating event logistics, timelines, and tasks as necessary for event production. The Event Manager is responsible for creating, managing, and adhering to an approved budget, engaging vendors for quotes, managing partners to ensure quality service is received, and reporting on event outcomes and ROI.
The Events Manager position requires flexibility and managing priorities and conflicting time demands. The Events Manager must be able to anticipate project needs, discern work priorities, and meet deadlines. The Events Manager should have a passion for special event management, provide outstanding communication to staff, vendors, and event attendees and volunteers, be an enthusiastic professional, and be capable of building strong and positive relationships.
The Event Manager will be in the Admissions department. By nature of events, this position may require working weekends and/or evening hours. This is an exempt position. Some travel may be required. Cultural competency, interpersonal, and collaboration skills are a must.
Driving Requirements: Some local driving and delivery may be required.
Travel Requirements: Less than 20%.
Physical Demands: Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill responsibilities.
Work Environment: This position is an office setting; the person will be in a sedentary position 50% of the time and standing or walking for 50% of the time. Must be able to walk around the campus without limitations, as well as travel. Morehouse work-from-home policies apply to this position. By nature of events, this position may require working weekends and/or evening hours. This is an exempt position.
