Texas Health and Human Services

The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) is a government administration agency within the Texas Health and Human Services System, headquartered in Austin, Texas. Since a major restructuring beginning in 2016 and reaching a key milestone in September 2017, the system has aimed to be more efficient, accountable, and integrated, now comprising two agencies: HHSC and the Texas Department of State Health Services. HHSC provides services such as Medicaid for families and children, long-term care for older adults and people with disabilities, SNAP and TANF assistance, behavioral health services, and support for women and others with special health needs. It also oversees regulatory functions, including licensing long-term care facilities and child care providers, and managing state supported living centers and state hospitals. The organization employs more than 11,000 people.
