Sr network operations engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Sr Network Operations Engineer based in United States.

This role is responsible for maintaining, supporting, and evolving a global network infrastructure serving both customers and internal operations.

You’ll provide advanced technical support across connectivity, security, routing, switching, firewalls, SD-WAN, and cloud networking.

The position combines hands-on engineering with network design, implementation, troubleshooting, and escalation management.

You’ll work closely with customers, vendors, internal teams, and third-party providers to resolve complex and potentially service-impacting issues.

The role operates within a 24/7 network operations environment where clear communication, accurate incident management, and technical judgment are essential.

You’ll also contribute to network expansion, security best practices, infrastructure upgrades, and technology solutions across diverse environments.

Accountabilities

• Engineer, configure, install, maintain, upgrade, and troubleshoot Fortinet, Cisco, and Palo Alto next-generation firewall technologies supporting customer and internal infrastructure.
• Manage existing customer-facing networks and contribute to network expansion by recommending appropriate architectures, hardware, connectivity solutions, and implementation approaches.
• Design and review network and system architectures to ensure alignment with security policies, industry best practices, and operational requirements.
• Implement and support SD-WAN, MPLS, wired and wireless Layer 2/Layer 3 connectivity, firewalls, routers, switches, and load-balancing solutions.
• Provide advanced, multi-layer technical support to customers through a 24/7 Network Operations Center environment.
• Investigate and resolve complex network anomalies, including issues with broad or potentially service-impacting consequences.
• Serve as a senior escalation point for customer incidents and internal technical teams, determining when additional resources or management involvement is required.
• Collaborate directly with customers, vendors, and third-party providers during troubleshooting, technical discussions, and network design sessions.
• Maintain accurate ticket documentation and provide customers with timely, clear updates regarding incident progress, root causes, and resolutions.
• Support network infrastructure upgrades, expansions, and technology implementations while maintaining reliability and security.
• Troubleshoot routing, connectivity, performance, and path-analysis issues using advanced diagnostic techniques, debug commands, packet captures, and network-flow analysis.
• Maintain and develop relevant technical certifications and continuously expand expertise across supported products and services.
• Follow established data-handling, privacy, security, compliance, and operational policies while contributing constructively to team objectives.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or university degree in a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience; 8+ years of relevant network engineering experience is required.
• Extensive hands-on experience troubleshooting complex networks using OSI-layer analysis, debug commands, packet captures, routing analysis, and end-to-end path analysis.
• Strong experience configuring, designing, implementing, and troubleshooting Cisco ASA/Firepower and Cisco Secure Firewall Management Center.
• Extensive experience with Fortinet FortiGate firewalls and the broader Fortinet product portfolio, including Fortinet access points and switches.
• Advanced experience with Cisco routers and switches, including Cisco Nexus platforms.
• Strong experience with Juniper EX/QFX switches, routers, and SRX firewalls.
• Extensive experience with Palo Alto firewalls and Panorama.
• Proven experience designing and troubleshooting SD-WAN environments, particularly FortiGate SD-WAN implementations.
• Strong knowledge of routing protocols, including BGP, OSPF, and IS-IS, with experience in design, implementation, and troubleshooting.
• Experience troubleshooting and optimizing VMware NSX environments, including both NSX-V and NSX-T.
• Extensive experience configuring, managing, and troubleshooting F5 load balancers, including LTM, GTM, and ASM.
• In-depth knowledge of MPLS and Layer 2/Layer 3 networking, including design, implementation, and complex troubleshooting.
• Production experience with AWS networking services such as VPC, Transit Gateway, VPN, Direct Connect, Security Groups, and NACLs.
• Production experience with Cloudflare services including DNS, CDN, WAF, DDoS protection, Zero Trust/Access, and Tunnel.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to lead technical conversations and explain complex issues clearly to customers and internal stakeholders.
• Strong customer-service orientation, attention to detail, collaboration skills, and the ability to remain effective when managing complex or service-impacting incidents.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with network operations, engineering, customers, vendors, and other technical teams.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.
