The SQL Developer + DBA will play a critical role in managing, optimizing, and supporting enterprise database environments across modern cloud platforms. This position combines database administration, advanced SQL development, performance optimization, and production reliability responsibilities. You will work closely with technical leadership and engineering teams to ensure secure, scalable, and highly available data solutions. Accountabilities:

The SQL Developer + DBA will be responsible for managing production database environments, improving performance, ensuring reliability, and partnering with technical teams to deliver secure and scalable data solutions.

• Administer and maintain production SQL Server environments, including Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and AWS-hosted MySQL environments.
• Develop, review, and optimize T-SQL queries, stored procedures, DML statements, and database schema changes.
• Perform advanced query tuning through execution plan analysis, indexing strategies, statistics management, and operator-level diagnostics.
• Monitor database performance and proactively identify, troubleshoot, and resolve bottlenecks, risks, and operational issues.
• Collaborate with solution architects and engineering teams on production architecture decisions and database improvements.
• Build and maintain a strong understanding of database schemas, data flows, integrations, and application dependencies.
• Support applications built with Entity Framework by analyzing generated SQL and recommending optimization opportunities.
• Leverage automation and AI-powered tools to enhance database monitoring, operational efficiency, and maintenance processes.
• Ensure database environments meet security, availability, reliability, and performance standards.
• Promote information security best practices related to data protection, access controls, malware prevention, and secure handling of information assets.
• Evaluate risks impacting confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data systems while supporting compliance with privacy standards.
• Collaborate with technical stakeholders as a trusted database partner, providing expertise and recommendations for continuous improvement.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate has strong hands-on database administration experience, advanced SQL development skills, and a proven ability to support complex production environments across cloud platforms.

• 6+ years of hands-on experience as a Database Administrator with strong SQL Server expertise.
• Proven experience managing production database environments with a focus on reliability, performance, and scalability.
• Strong proficiency with Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Managed Instance.
• Experience working with cloud-hosted relational databases, including AWS MySQL.
• Advanced T-SQL skills, including DDL, DML, stored procedures, and query optimization.
• Ability to analyze execution plans, identify performance issues, and apply effective tuning strategies.
• Working knowledge of Entity Framework and SQL generation patterns.
• Familiarity with AI tools and their application in database monitoring, automation, and operational improvement.
• Strong understanding of database security, data protection practices, and privacy requirements such as GDPR and CCPA.
• Ability to make sound technical decisions under pressure in live production environments.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach.
• Self-directed professional with strong ownership, accountability, and attention to detail.
• Excellent collaboration skills with the ability to partner effectively with architects, engineers, and senior technical stakeholders.
