Company Overview

Our client is one of Canada's fastest-growing privately owned freight brokerages. Founded in 2009, the company has grown to approximately $75–80 million CAD in annual revenue, with three Canadian offices and a team of approximately 40 employees. Their growth has been fueled by exceptional customer service, strong technology, disciplined operations, and an outstanding reputation throughout Canada.

The company specializes in:

  • Truckload
  • Cross-Border Transportation
  • LTL Canadian Domestic Freight
  • Consolidation Programs
  • Specialized Transportation Solutions

The company is now making a strategic investment into the United States and is seeking its first U.S.-based commercial leader.

Position Summary

This is much more than a sales position. The company is looking for an entrepreneurial sales professional who can help establish its U.S. presence while developing new customer relationships and eventually helping build its first U.S. operation. Initially, the successful candidate will focus on generating new U.S. shipper relationships, primarily involving cross-border transportation between the United States and Canada. Long term, this individual has the opportunity to become the leader of the company's U.S. expansion by helping recruit additional salespeople, operations personnel, and eventually leading a U.S. branch.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop new U.S.-based shipper relationships
  • Sell cross-border transportation solutions
  • Expand the company's U.S. customer base
  • Build long-term strategic customer partnerships
  • Work closely with Canadian operations teams
  • Collaborate on the long-term strategy for U.S. expansion
  • Assist with recruiting and building a future U.S. sales organization
  • Eventually mentor and lead additional sales professionals as the business grows

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • 5+ years of freight brokerage sales experience
  • Proven business development success
  • Strong truckload and cross-border transportation knowledge
  • Existing relationships within the freight industry
  • Entrepreneurial mindset
  • Executive-level communication skills

Highly Preferred

  • Someone who has:
  • An existing book of business (approximately $5M–$10M preferred)
  • Leadership experience
  • Interest in building a brokerage operation rather than simply managing an existing book
  • Desire to become a Player-Coach and future Branch Manager

The company is open to both experienced sales executives and established player-coach leaders capable of building an office over time.

Why This Opportunity Stands Out

  • Build Something: Rather than joining an established office, you'll help create the company's U.S. operation from the ground up.
  • Strong Financial Backing: The company is a profitable, privately owned organization experiencing significant year-over-year growth.
  • Outstanding Operations: The sales team is supported by:
    • 16 experienced Logistics Coordinators
    • Dedicated tracking team through Lean Solutions
    • Expanded after-hours operational coverage
    • Highway carrier compliance platform
    • Triumph pricing analytics
    • Strong technology investments
    • Experienced executive leadership

The company believes its Canadian domestic and cross-border operations are among the strongest in the industry and provides exceptional operational support to its sales organization.

Compensation

  • Base Salary: $100,000–$125,000+ depending on experience
  • Variable Compensation: 10% of Gross Margin from Dollar One
  • No declining commission structure
  • Opportunity to transition into the company's higher full-commission compensation model once production reaches established performance levels
