Job Summary: Payroll Specialist

Responsibilities

  • Act as the escalation point for Tier 2 payroll issues, managing complex case investigations and resolutions
  • Analyze payroll data, identify root-causes, and coordinate corrective actions across HR, Finance, and IT
  • Oversee the complete case lifecycle from intake through closure, maintaining detailed and compliant records
  • Produce regular reports and metrics on case volume, SLA compliance, and root-cause trends
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to develop process improvements and preventative payroll controls
  • Deliver training and share best practices with Tier 1 payroll staff

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, or relevant experience
  • Minimum 3 years of payroll processing and case management experience; at least 1 year with Tier 2 or complex payroll cases
  • Proficiency with payroll systems (SAP ECP highly valued), advanced Excel/Power Query skills
  • Strong understanding of federal and state payroll tax regulations (FICA, IRS, state withholding)
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Skills

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP)
  • Expertise in SAP Employee Central
  • Strong organizational skills with proven ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Customer service mindset and collaborative approach to cross-functional teamwork
