Fuller (The Fuller Project) is an award-winning global newsroom dedicated to publishing groundbreaking reporting that catalyzes positive change for women and gender-diverse people. Since 2015, our reporting has helped end life-threatening practices, led to large-scale releases of public data and prompted the introduction of new legislation.
We are looking to contract an editor with experience commissioning investigations and enterprise features, and a demonstrable interest in gender equity issues, for nine months of maternity leave cover (with the possibility of extension to 12 months), starting in mid-September 2026.
Fuller’s new editorial strategy sets out to diversify our content formats, routes to audience, partnerships and impact measures. With the exception of special reporting projects, investigations and social-first video journalism, most of our journalism is delivered through an edition model – we publish on average six editions per year.
Reporting into the editor-in-chief and working closely with all members of our editorial team, the lead editor plays a central role ideating, commissioning for and overseeing the rollout of each edition, ensuring originality, high editorial quality, visual and thematic coherence, impact and engagement across all formats.
With experience in impact and gender-focused journalism, the lead editor is expected to commission, edit and fact-check enterprise features, investigations and engaging journalism on issues that disproportionately affect women, girls and gender minorities around the world. They will also edit newsletters and should be able to provide guidance on video and audio scripts.
As a small, distributed newsroom with a specialist expertise, Fuller relies heavily on the contributions of freelance journalists and creators, as well as co-publication partnerships with other media from around the world. The editor is expected to build and maintain strong relationships with multimedia contributors and newsroom collaborators across our main coverage areas (tech, health, labor, conflict and climate) and edition themes. Externally, the editor represents Fuller at events, speaking to our model, mission and journalism.
The salary range for this full-time position is $77K-90K (annualized), benchmarked against DC/NYC cost of living. The actual salary will be based on the candidate’s experience and qualifications as well as scaled to their geographic location.
The lead editor role is for nine months of maternity leave cover, with the possibility of extension to 12 months. It is a full-time, remote staff role with benefits.
For candidates based in countries outside the US, Fuller works with an Employer of Record to employ staff members and provide benefits. In addition to a competitive salary commensurate with experience, benefits may include (subject to country requirements and availability):
Candidates should submit a resume, cover letter, and three samples of work that showcase your skills as an editor and your approach to impact production. For each example, include a paragraph to outline what you did and what was achieved). Also send examples of any multimedia projects you’ve worked directly on: social media videos, carousels or interactives. If you are shortlisted for the role, you should expect to receive an editorial test.
We are an equal opportunity employer, and we value diversity of all forms in our newsroom. We encourage people of all backgrounds to apply. You must have work authorization in your current country of residence.
Interested candidates should apply online by August 17. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
