Job Description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director of Product, Banking based in the United States.

This is a senior product leadership opportunity focused on shaping and scaling a comprehensive banking and payments portfolio.

You will own product strategy, roadmap, and execution across onboarding, transaction processing, treasury solutions, and card issuance.

The role combines strategic leadership with hands-on product management, including defining requirements, writing specifications, and solving complex problems.

You will work closely with engineering, design, compliance, risk, legal, data, and go-to-market teams to deliver secure and compliant products.

A key part of the role is building and mentoring a high-performing, globally distributed product organization.

You will also establish scalable product practices, improve execution rigor, and translate complex banking needs into measurable customer and business outcomes.

Accountabilities:

  • Own banking product strategy: Define and continuously evolve the product vision, strategy, and multi-quarter roadmap across customer onboarding, transaction processing, treasury solutions, card issuance, and related banking capabilities.
  • Drive product execution: Prioritize initiatives, coordinate delivery across teams, and remain accountable for products from discovery and definition through launch, iteration, and measurable outcomes.
  • Lead complex initiatives: Turn ambiguous, cross-functional business and technical challenges into clear requirements, scope, product specifications, and actionable delivery plans.
  • Stay hands-on: Develop PRDs, product specifications, user stories, and other product documentation while engaging deeply with data, edge cases, ledgering, reconciliation, and regulatory considerations.
  • Build and scale the product organization: Establish effective discovery, prioritization, specification, launch, and review processes that enable the team to scale while maintaining high standards.
  • Develop product talent: Hire, coach, mentor, and retain product managers while establishing clear expectations, development plans, and growth opportunities.
  • Lead distributed teams: Guide product professionals across multiple regions and time zones, promoting effective asynchronous collaboration and inclusive leadership.
  • Partner cross-functionally: Collaborate with engineering, design, data, compliance, risk, legal, and go-to-market teams to deliver high-quality banking experiences.
  • Manage risk and compliance: Ensure banking and payment products incorporate appropriate regulatory requirements, risk monitoring, fraud controls, security measures, and financial controls.
  • Communicate with executives: Present strategy, progress, risks, investment needs, and trade-offs clearly to senior leadership and key stakeholders.
  • Drive business outcomes: Ensure product decisions are connected to measurable customer, operational, and commercial outcomes, including deposit growth, interest income, interchange revenue, and improved customer experiences.

Requirements

  • Product leadership experience: Approximately 12–18 years of relevant product management experience, including at least 5 years leading and managing product teams. Demonstrated impact is valued over a specific number of years.
  • Banking and payments expertise: Deep experience building and launching banking, payments, lending, or comparable financial products at scale.
  • Domain breadth: Hands-on experience across several core areas, including customer onboarding and experience, transaction processing, ACH, RTP/FedNow, checks, cross-border payments, multi-currency transactions, treasury solutions, and card issuance.
  • Risk and compliance: Proven experience delivering compliant payment products with appropriate fraud prevention, risk monitoring, and financial-crime controls.
  • Treasury and card expertise: Familiarity with treasury products designed to drive deposit growth and interest income, as well as card programs that generate interchange revenue.
  • Financial infrastructure knowledge: Working understanding of ledgering, reconciliation, balance integrity, and the financial controls required to support trustworthy banking products.
  • Strategic product management: Demonstrated ability to establish product strategy and translate it into an executable roadmap with clear priorities and measurable outcomes.
  • Complex problem solving: Strong ability to independently scope and lead complex, cross-functional initiatives from ambiguity through delivery.
  • Hands-on product craftsmanship: Comfortable personally writing PRDs, product specifications, user stories, and requirements rather than operating solely at an oversight level.
  • Organizational leadership: Experience hiring, coaching, and developing product managers while establishing durable processes, standards, and operating practices.
  • Global leadership: Proven ability to lead and mentor distributed teams across multiple regions and time zones.
  • Technical collaboration: Strong understanding of technical trade-offs and experience partnering closely with engineering and design teams.
  • Regulatory and stakeholder management: Comfortable navigating compliance, risk, legal, and regulatory constraints while communicating effectively with executive-level stakeholders.
  • Preferred experience: Exposure to domestic and cross-border payment rails, treasury or card issuance programs, banking platforms or APIs, fraud and financial-crime tooling, market expansion, or products involving payments, ledgering, and reconciliation.
  • Education: A technical background or degree in a quantitative field is advantageous.

Benefits

  • Compensation: Annual base salary range of $230,000–$260,000.
  • Financial incentives: Bonus programs, 401(k) matching, and an Employee Stock Purchase Program (ESPP).
  • Financial wellness: HSA and FSA options, financial wellness resources, and employee discount programs.
  • Healthcare: Medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Mental health: Mental health support for employees and dependents through Lyra Health.
  • Family support: Family planning and women's health benefits through Carrot.
  • Wellness: Gym membership reimbursement and virtual wellness programs, including yoga.
  • Paid time off: Three weeks of PTO to start, with unlimited PTO available after the first year.
  • Professional development: Education expense reimbursement and leadership development programs.
  • Certification support: Support for Certified Payments Professional (CPP) certification.
  • Work environment: Remote work with a results-driven culture centered on ownership, authenticity, service, trust, innovation, and collaboration.
  • Leadership impact: Opportunity to shape a significant banking and payments product portfolio while building and mentoring a globally distributed product organization.
