Job Description

DIRECTOR OF MARKETING

Sterling Lawyers, LLC | Wisconsin (HQ) | Full-Time, Exempt | 100% Remote | Reports to the CEO

Why This Role

Sterling Lawyers is seeking a visionary, growth-oriented Director of Marketing to lead one of the central functions in our continued growth. We are on pace to exceed $21 million in revenue this year, are completing a $5 million acquisition in Florida, and expect to surpass $28 million in revenue in 2027. For more than a decade, our growth has been fueled primarily through world-class digital marketing and an unwavering commitment to client experience. As we continue expanding into new cities and states, marketing is not a support function — it is a strategic growth engine.

The Opportunity

Lead a focused, AI-first team of specialists across paid media, SEO, and creative. AI is the force multiplier that lets a lean team outperform a department many times its size, and your job is to build and run that engine. This role brings together team leadership and deep expertise across paid media, SEO, web design, and go-to-market strategy. The right leader will establish clear standards, guide how specialists use and evaluate AI, and ensure quality and consistency across each discipline. The initial focus will be driving profitable growth throughout our established Wisconsin and Illinois markets, with the opportunity to support expansion into new markets over time.

As You Step Into the Role

You will work closely with the co-founder who built Sterling’s marketing engine, gaining insight into the strategy behind its growth. You will also select and build your own team, with the co-founder serving as a trusted advisor throughout the transition.

What You’ll Own

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute Sterling's long-term marketing strategy. Partner with executive leadership on growth initiatives, acquisitions, and expansion opportunities. Identify emerging trends, technologies, and opportunities that keep Sterling innovative and well-positioned for growth.
  • Growth Marketing: Lead and continuously improve lead generation performance across all channels. Oversee SEO, paid search, local search, content marketing, social media, video, email marketing, and conversion optimization. Continuously improve marketing ROI and client acquisition cost.
  • Geographic Expansion: Develop and execute launch plans for new cities and states. Build localized marketing strategies that quickly establish market presence and trust.
  • Brand & Client Experience: Ensure consistent messaging across all platforms. Strengthen Sterling’s reputation as a trusted and leading family law firm in every market we serve. Collaborate with Operations and Sales to ensure marketing promises align with client experiences.
  • Analytics & Performance: Establish clear KPIs, shared expectations, and meaningful performance measures. Provide executive-level reporting and insights. Make data-driven decisions that maximize growth and profitability.
  • Team Leadership: Recruit, develop, and support a talented, high-performing marketing team. Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, ownership, and continuous improvement. Create clear performance expectations and professional development pathways.
  • Acquisitions & Integration: Lead marketing integration efforts for acquired firms. Preserve valuable local brand equity while transitioning firms into the Sterling growth platform.

What Matters Most

A résumé tells part of the story. What matters most is the character, judgment, and perspective someone brings to the role. The qualities that will help someone thrive here include:

  • Insatiable curiosity. You're always hunting for the next edge—for yourself, your team, and the firm. Learning isn't something you do; it's who you are. You're energized by discovering better ways to grow, compete, and win.
  • Integrity toward performance. When you're responsible for a project or campaign, its performance is personal—not because someone's watching, but because excellence is part of your character. You own the outcome, learn from the data, and never stop improving.
  • A servant leader's heart. You believe leadership exists to help others succeed. You remove obstacles, develop people, share credit freely, and step in wherever you're needed. You measure your success by the success of your team.
  • Team before self. We want someone who elevates those around them, welcomes healthy debate, values diverse perspectives, and is willing to do whatever it takes to help the team accomplish the mission.

The Expertise This Role Requires

From day one, this role calls for strong fluency across each of these areas. You will not execute every detail yourself, but you should understand the work deeply enough to set direction, support and challenge specialists, use AI effectively, and recognize when the strategy, analysis, or execution needs to be refined:

  • Paid media — Google Ads, Meta, and beyond. Account and campaign architecture, keyword targeting and match types, negative lists, ad assets, location and call extensions, mobile and geographic bid adjustments, and every other edge in an account — plus the analytical chops to find the waste and the opportunity in the data.
  • SEO — search as a deducible system, not a bag of tricks. How citations work and how their strength compounds. Holistic content architecture and mapping. Technical markup and schema. Visibility across both traditional search and the new world of AI answers.
  • Web design & conversion — design that drives action, looks and feels local, and converts by meeting users where they are. Multiple conversion paths for a buyer’s journey that can run 18 months to 3 years.
  • Go-to-market & funnel — a real plan for each brand to reach people navigating divorce, custody, and post-judgment matters. The empathy to get inside the head of someone in one of the hardest seasons of their life, and the skill to lead them from the top of the funnel to signed client.

What You Bring

Required:

  • 10+ years of progressive marketing leadership, including managing and developing a team.
  • Proven success scaling multi-location service businesses.
  • Deep, hands-on expertise in digital marketing and lead generation.
  • Experience leading teams through periods of rapid growth.
  • Strong command of SEO, paid media, analytics, conversion optimization, and marketing technology.
  • Strong fluency with AI tools in marketing—or a demonstrated ability to learn and adopt new tools quickly.

Preferred:

  • Experience marketing multiple brands
  • M&A integration experience
