Job Description

Bookkeeper – Client Accounting Services (Remote)

Location: Remote

Employment Type: Full-time

Schedule: Full U.S. business-hours overlap required

Reports to: Founder / Accounting Lead

About the Company

We are a rapidly growing U.S.-based back-office services firm that acts as the outsourced accounting, HR, operations, and strategic planning team for small businesses. Our clients are owners who have built something real but don't have the time, systems, or in-house team to keep the back office running clean. Our accounting work is built on a simple promise: no mystery money. We keep our clients' books clean, current, and genuinely useful, so they always know where their business stands, not just at tax time. Books are closed monthly, reporting goes out by the 5th, and there are no surprises come April. We're not a firm that hands over a report and disappears. We roll up our sleeves, learn each client's business, and grow alongside them. As our client base expands, we're adding to the accounting team.

About the Role

This role exists because our client roster is growing, and clean, on-time books are the foundation of everything we deliver. This is not a single-company bookkeeping seat. You will own the monthly close across a portfolio of small-business clients, keep each set of books accurate and current, and turn that work into reporting owners can actually make decisions from. You'll also be the day-to-day accounting point of contact for several of those clients, which means the work is as much about communication and reliability as it is about the numbers. Many of the businesses we support are fast-scaling companies, including creator-economy and tech clients, whose books move quickly, run across multiple platforms, and don't always arrive clean. As we sign new clients, you'll need to get up to speed on a new business and its systems fast and keep the close on track from day one. You'll move between different businesses, different industries, and different levels of book cleanliness in the same week. The people who thrive here are organized, self-managed, and able to pivot into a new client without letting anything slip.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monthly Close & Bookkeeping
    • Own full-cycle bookkeeping for a portfolio of small-business clients
    • Categorize transactions, manage AP/AR, and maintain the general ledger
    • Perform bank, credit card, and account reconciliations
    • Complete an accurate, on-time monthly close for each assigned client
  • Financial Reporting
    • Prepare and deliver monthly P&L, balance sheet, and cash-flow reporting by the 5th
    • Flag anomalies, trends, and issues proactively rather than waiting to be asked
    • Package reporting so a non-accountant owner can understand where the business stands
  • Client Onboarding & Cleanup
    • Onboard new clients, including catch-up and cleanup of prior-period books
    • Establish or refine the chart of accounts and bookkeeping processes for each client
    • Build repeatable workflows so each client's monthly cycle runs predictably
  • Client Communication
    • Serve as the day-to-day accounting contact for assigned clients
    • Answer client questions clearly and respond within committed timeframes
    • Coordinate document and information requests without creating friction for the owner
  • Compliance & Coordination
    • Support payroll and contractor (1099) processing and related record-keeping
    • Prepare clean, organized books for year-end and hand off to tax preparers
    • Keep documentation and supporting records audit-ready

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of full-cycle bookkeeping experience
  • Experience managing books for multiple clients or entities at once
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks Online
  • Command of reconciliations, journal entries, AP/AR, and month-end close
  • Strong written and spoken English for direct client communication
  • Proven ability to hit hard monthly deadlines across several accounts
  • Reliable remote work setup and strong self-management

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience at an accounting firm, bookkeeping practice, or outsourced/BPO back office
  • Cleanup and catch-up bookkeeping experience
  • Xero proficiency in addition to QuickBooks Online
  • Payroll and contractor compliance familiarity
  • Comfort with a modern small-business app stack (e.g. Bill.com, Gusto, Melio, Dext/Hubdoc)
  • Exposure to a range of service-based industries

Ideal Candidate Profile

You are:

  • Highly organized, and able to manage several clients without letting details slip
  • Comfortable switching context across different businesses in the same day
  • Calm and methodical when handed messy or incomplete books
  • A proactive communicator who surfaces issues early
  • Accurate by instinct, and self-directed without needing heavy oversight
  • Genuinely reliable, because clients are counting on the close every month

Why Join Us

  • Real ownership of your client relationships, not siloed data entry
  • A growing firm where your work directly shapes how clients run their businesses
  • No bureaucracy and no red tape, just good work and real relationships
  • Meaningful impact on the small-business owners we serve
