Job Title: Art Director

Reports to: Creative Director

Location: Remote with Travel, New York Based

Travel Requirement: Up to 30% travel, including weekends and late nights for live events and tours

Role Overview

The Art Director plays a key role in shaping Soze’s creative output — translating complex stories into compelling visual narratives across digital, social, experiential, content, and brand platforms. This is both a maker role and a directional role.

You will conceptualize, design, build, and guide visuals that live across integrated campaigns, brand systems, public installations, videos, and interactive experiences. The ideal candidate is a culturally curious, equity-centered creative thinker who moves seamlessly between design execution, art direction, conceptual ideation, and cross-functional collaboration.

What You’ll Do

Creative Concepting & Visual Direction

• Develop and execute visual concepts for branding, experiential installations, social/digital campaigns, OOH, storytelling platforms, and integrated cultural work.
• Bring ideas to life through sketches, mockups, decks, brand directions, style frames, and storyboards.
• Translate creative strategy into visual systems that are coherent, impactful, and culturally resonant.
• Provide art direction for designers, photographers, videographers, illustrators, animators, and production partners.

Design Execution & Production

• Produce high-quality design deliverables including branding, key visuals, typography systems, editorial layouts, environmental graphics, signage, and content graphics.
• Create assets for video, photo, digital, print, experiential, and emerging media formats.
• Oversee visual execution on shoots, experiential installations, and key production moments.
• Collaborate with Experiential Production on feasibility, vendor selection, fabrication, and execution details.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with Creative Directors, Designers, Producers, Strategists, and Accounts to develop cohesive, integrated creative work.
• Partner with Strategy to ground visual approaches in insight and cultural nuance.
• Contribute to pitch decks, brainstorms, and client-facing presentations with strong visual storytelling.

Client Engagement & Presentation

• Present creative concepts and design rationale clearly and confidently.
• Translate client needs into thoughtful visual solutions that elevate storytelling and clarify direction.
• Build collaborative, trust-based relationships with clients and partners.

Creative Leadership & Culture

• Provide constructive feedback and direction to junior designers and cross-functional creative team members.
• Uphold Soze’s values of compassion, courage, and equity in all creative decisions.
• Bring new inspirations, references, and creative approaches to the team.

Experience & Skills

Required

• 7+ years of design or art direction experience in a creative agency, design studio, or equivalent environment.
• Strong conceptual and visual design abilities across multiple mediums.
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign required).
• Strong experience with Keynote, Figma/Slides, and presentation design.
• High-level typographic, layout, color, and composition skills.
• Experience preparing files for print, fabrication, digital asset production, and experiential execution.
• Comfort storyboarding and collaborating with directors, photographers, videographers, and content teams.
• Ability to translate briefs and client objectives into visual concepts and directions.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.
• Ability to provide creative feedback and support design development for teammates.

Bonus Skills

• Experience with motion graphics, After Effects, or 2D animation.
• Comfort directing photographers, illustrators, or animators.
• Environmental or experiential design background (2D/3D).
• Experience with Figma, Adobe XD, Cinema4D, Blender, or prototyping tools.
• Familiarity with emerging creative technologies, AI, AR/VR, or interactive media.
