Job Description

Build your career. Lead meaningful projects. Help shape what comes next.

Weston & Sampson is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our Mechanical HVAC and Plumbing team in any of our New England offices. This is an exciting opportunity for a mid-to-senior-career professional to take ownership of complex engineering projects, collaborate with a talented multidisciplinary team, and play a key role in developing both our projects and future engineering talent.

At Weston & Sampson, you'll have the opportunity to work across a diverse portfolio of public, private, federal, and municipal projects, contributing to the design and improvement of buildings and facilities throughout New England. We're looking for an engineer who brings strong technical expertise, sound judgment, and a collaborative mindset, along with the desire to take on greater responsibility and make a lasting impact.

If you're ready to bring your experience to a team where you can lead, mentor, solve complex engineering challenges, and continue growing professionally, we'd love to hear from you.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Lead engineering design efforts: Develop mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection designs for new construction and renovation projects across a variety of facility types.
  • Own projects from concept to completion: Conduct field investigations, develop engineering reports, prepare construction documents, and review shop drawings to support successful project delivery.
  • Collaborate across disciplines: Coordinate with engineers and design professionals across local and regional offices, as well as clients, subconsultants, utility providers, and equipment vendors.
  • Provide technical leadership: Apply your engineering expertise to resolve complex design challenges, coordinate building systems, and translate engineering concepts into practical, constructible solutions.
  • Mentor and support developing engineers: Provide technical guidance, review design work, and help junior team members build their skills and professional capabilities.
  • Deliver high-quality work: Manage multiple projects, maintain schedules, and ensure designs meet applicable building codes, industry standards, and project requirements.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 4-8 years of relevant experience in mechanical building systems design, including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and/or energy-related engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, or the ability to obtain licensure in a U.S. state.
  • Strong understanding of Massachusetts building codes and familiarity with applicable building codes across other New England states.
  • Working knowledge of plumbing systems, including drain, waste, and vent (DWV) design.
  • Experience designing and calculating fire protection systems, including electric and engine-driven fire pumps, cisterns, wet and dry sprinkler systems, and kitchen or other chemical fire suppression systems.
  • Proficiency with Revit or comparable 3D design software and AutoCAD.
  • Ability to independently manage complex assignments, coordinate with other building systems disciplines, and oversee the work of junior staff.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, organizational abilities, and a collaborative approach to problem-solving.
  • Commitment to engineering quality, professional integrity, safety, and teamwork.
  • Ability to travel locally throughout New England and occasionally along the East Coast for project meetings and site investigations.
  • Valid driver's license.
