Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno Libraries is recruiting for a Manager, Events and Production. This position is responsible for conducting needs assessments, coordinating necessary equipment and personnel, and producing live media elements for University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) events. The Manager, Events and Production meets with potential event clients, determines needs, creates action plans to fulfill needs, and makes decisions and judgments as to the best technology and methods to implement plans and produce events. The position is often the sole representative for troubleshooting problems at an event and thus must make decisions autonomously and quickly.

The Manager, Events and Production determines appropriate technology, delivery modes, and production methodologies, decisions that have a significant impact on the success and effectiveness of events, including those involving the Offices of the President and Provost. They have a direct impact on the University’s image within the University community, with the alumni and donor base, various constituencies within the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE), local and state community members, and constituencies within state and local government, all of whom are frequent participants in events held on campus. Likewise, the incumbent’s performance, decision-making, and handling of crises and high-pressure, impromptu situations reflect on the perception and credibility of the University Libraries. The position manages a team of professional and student staff and reports to the Director, Digital Media Technology.

This role is expected to:

• Consult with campus clients to assess an event’s media technology requirements
• Develop plans to fulfill various event needs, including procurement of equipment and additional staff, as well as system test-bedding and component evaluation
• Determine field and studio production equipment and personnel requirements by participating in preproduction meetings
• Coordinate and oversee the operation of production equipment in the field and in studios, including, but not limited to, audio recording equipment, video cameras, etc.
• Triage requests for maintenance, carry out routine maintenance and repair of the department’s equipment and furnishings, and coordinate with the campus Facilities Maintenance Services department for building maintenance
• Schedule and coordinate equipment and staffing
• Supervision of staff and students in the execution of campus events and field production

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and three (3) years of related professional work experience OR Master’s Degree and two (2) years of related work experience. Related experience: Event media technology coordination and support or related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in higher education
• Experience working live streaming events
• Proficiency and hands-on experience in field/studio audio and video production setup, including live video switcher operation, video and audio signal routing, and multi-camera live event management (Candidates will demonstrate these skills through a hands-on technical assessment during the interview process)
• Knowledge of best practices for ADA compliance during live events
• Understanding of OSHA certification requirements for live events (current OSHA certification a plus!)
• Knowledge of Production Software (including but not limited to applications in the Adobe Creative Suite, video editing software and digital audio workstations)
• Knowledge of project management principles and experience coordinating projects across functional units and among many diverse entities.
• Experience providing verbal and written customer service to diverse clientele and stakeholders, conveying technical, creative, and professional support and solutions.
• Experience supervising production crews/employees
• Experience working with and supervising individuals who are highly diverse regarding many facets of identity, including but not limited to gender, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, ability, income, level of educational attainment, and religion.

Schedule

Occasional evening and weekend work may be required to meet event and programming needs. Occasional travel may be required to meet event and programming needs.
