Job Description
The Assistant Direct Care Service Manager (Assistant Lead Supervisor) will provide crucial support to the Direct Care Service Manager by assisting in the management and oversight of the Youth Care Worker (YCW) Department. This role is integral in ensuring the smooth functioning of the program, particularly during evening, overnight, and weekend shifts. The Assistant Lead Supervisor will be responsible for providing hands-on support in the programs, helping on the floor, and addressing day-to-day operational needs. This role reports directly to the Lead Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Support Leadership and Supervision:
- Provide direct support to the Lead Supervisor in the management of the YCW department.
- Assist with shift oversight, ensuring appropriate staff-to-youth ratios and compliance with regulations.
- Serve as an on-site presence, actively engaging with youth and staff to maintain a safe and positive environment.
- Provide guidance and support to Shift Supervisors and YCWs during shifts, particularly during challenging situations.
- Assist in the coordination and implementation of recreational outings, special events, and holiday celebrations.
- Recruitment, Training, and Staff Development:
- Assist in the recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing training of YCWs.
- Participate in the development of training materials and support training sessions to ensure staff readiness.
- Provide mentorship and hands-on guidance to Shift Supervisors to enhance their leadership and operational skills.
- Coordination and Communication:
- Facilitate regular check-ins and meetings with Shift Supervisors to discuss employee performance, schedules, and operational concerns.
- Serve as a point of contact for scheduling adjustments, callouts, and time-off requests.
- Collaborate with the Lead Supervisor to ensure consistent communication across all shifts.
- Operational Support:
- Actively participate on the floor to monitor program operations and provide immediate support as needed.
- Ensure staff follow all safety, compliance, and licensing protocols.
- Provide hands-on assistance during emergencies, evacuations, or crises.
- Support the documentation and reporting of incidents, as required.
- Collaboration:
- Maintain open communication with Youth Care Workers, Case Management, Clinical Department, and Program Directors.
- Collaborate with internal departments to ensure effective service delivery and operational efficiency.
- On-Call Duties:
- Be available for on-call support, as needed.
- Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to work extended hours, including weekends and holidays.
- Other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by supervisors.
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Strong leadership and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to effectively mentor and guide staff in a high-stress environment.
- Commitment to trauma-informed care and child advocacy.
- Ability to multitask and adapt to changing situations.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Google Drive) with the ability to learn new software.
- Proficient in reading, interpreting and applying partnered federal agency P&P.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in child welfare, youth care, or a related field.
- Supervisory or leadership experience is preferred.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
- Flexible schedule (evening, weekends, holidays) to facilitate program services.
- Cleared tuberculosis test results.
- Must be able to pass a drug test.
- Must be able to provide proof of required vaccinations.
- Cleared background checks from appropriate entities, including Child Abuse and Neglect and FBI criminal background.
- Obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be eligible to drive to facilitate program services as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- May lift and carry up to 10 pounds frequently, up to 20 pounds occasionally, up to 50 pounds infrequently.
- Performs tasks that may involve standing or walking 50% of the day; sitting 50% of the day.
- May bend, stoop, reach and grasp as necessary.
- Must be able to provide First Aid and CPR.
- Must be able to perform physical holds as instructed in Crisis Prevention Intervention training (CPI).
