Tax senior, business entities

Bright!Tax is hiring a Tax Senior specialising in Business Entities, to anchor our US business entity work. You will prepare, review, sign, and deliver Forms 1065, 1120, and 1120-S for American entrepreneurs living outside the United States. You will handle most of that work end to end, and you will also review returns prepared by others so our team can learn from you. Between entity deadlines you will carry individual expat returns and the international forms that sit alongside them, so the year stays balanced. You will also mentor the preparers on our team who want to grow into entity work. This is a fully remote independent contractor role, open on location, working the US filing calendar. It will suit someone who is confident making their own judgment calls and comfortable working the way a small, fully remote firm works.

Key responsibilities

• Review, sign, and deliver Forms 1065, 1120, and 1120-S for expat-owned businesses, and prepare them end to end where that is the better fit.
• Grow into the international layer that sits on top of entity work, including Forms 5471, 8865, and 8858, GILTI and subpart F, and foreign trust reporting. Experience here is welcome, and we will teach it if you have not done it.
• Talk directly with clients by phone and video: explain positions, walk them through their entity returns, deliver completed work, and flag where their facts call for filings beyond the current scope. No selling or business development.
• Mentor and upskill Tax Team members toward independent entity preparation, in partnership with Learning and Development.
• Carry individual expat returns and international filings in the months between entity deadlines.
• Document entity standards, review checklists, and common fact patterns so the work is repeatable, reviewable, and teachable.

Must-have qualifications

• Years of experience: Roughly four to eight years in US tax with substantial entity work, enough to make a judgment call without escalating it. We care more about whether you have owned client relationships and made judgment calls yourself than about the number. We will hire at either Tax Senior or Tax Manager level, based on depth of experience and the technical authority you are ready to carry. At Tax Senior level this seat carries no direct reports. At Manager level it would likely come with direct reports as the entity bench grows. Neither level carries selling or business development responsibility.
• Credentials / licenses (e.g., CPA, EA): CPA or EA required, active and in good standing. Must hold a current PTIN and be eligible to sign as paid preparer.
• Required skills / tools: Forms 1065, 1120, and 1120-S; partner and shareholder basis; K-1 and K-2 / K-3 reporting; working knowledge of the controlled foreign corporation and foreign partnership regimes. Direct client contact by phone and video. Comfortable working in a cloud practice stack.

Languages (if any)

Professional fluency in English, written and spoken.

Nice-to-haves

• Background in a small firm or your own practice rather than a large firm environment, so you are calibrated to what a client of our size actually needs. If you run your own practice, this cannot be a side engagement alongside it. We need committed capacity across the filing calendar.
• Experience serving US owners living abroad, or time in a firm with an international or expat client base.
• Experience building technical training or running upskilling for a team.
