Solutions engineer (technical sales)

This role sits at the intersection of technical consulting, solution architecture, and customer-facing sales within the intelligent transportation technology space.

You’ll help customers solve complex operational challenges by connecting their infrastructure, data, and technical requirements to practical solutions.

The position spans the full solution lifecycle, from technical discovery and demonstrations through proof-of-value validation and field implementation.

You’ll build rapid prototypes and custom workflows that demonstrate measurable value and help address needs beyond standard product capabilities.

Working closely with sales, product, and engineering teams, you’ll translate successful solutions into scalable capabilities and actionable technical requirements.

You’ll engage with both technical and executive stakeholders, making complex concepts accessible while building compelling business and ROI cases.

Accountabilities

• Provide technical pre-sales support for complex hardware and software deployments across customer environments.
• Assess customer infrastructure, systems, operational workflows, data, and technical constraints to identify appropriate solution approaches.
• Design and build rapid prototypes, custom workflows, and proof-of-concept solutions that address customer challenges and demonstrate tangible value.
• Lead technical presentations, product demonstrations, and solution discussions for both technical stakeholders and executive decision-makers.
• Own Proof of Value documentation and validation activities, demonstrating technical feasibility, business value, and potential ROI.
• Map customer pain points and operational requirements to available solutions and identify opportunities for expansion.
• Deliver technical training and support change-management activities for customer engineers, architects, and other stakeholders, including on-site engagements when required.
• Partner closely with Account Executives to support sales opportunities and contribute toward individual and team revenue objectives.
• Analyze customer operations to uncover additional value opportunities and identify ways to expand software adoption.
• Collaborate with Product Management and Engineering to communicate customer requirements, refine solutions, and translate successful approaches into scalable product capabilities.
• Stay current with relevant programming languages, platforms, AI tools, and emerging technical approaches to develop innovative customer solutions.

Requirements

• Professional experience in solutions engineering, technical consulting, technical pre-sales, solution architecture, or a closely related technical role.
• Strong knowledge of networking products, hardware/software integration, technical systems, and rapid prototyping.
• Experience in Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), transportation infrastructure, fleet or telematics technology, connected vehicles, or a related domain.
• Strong quantitative and analytical problem-solving abilities, including experience structuring ambiguous technical problems, analyzing operational and system data, testing hypotheses, and identifying meaningful performance measures.
• Ability to translate technical findings into practical solutions, clear recommendations, and compelling business or ROI cases.
• Strong business-analysis capabilities, including process mapping, workflow redesign, and understanding operational requirements.
• Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to adapt complex technical concepts for non-technical buyers and executive audiences.
• Demonstrated self-starter mentality, with the curiosity and adaptability to independently learn new programming languages, platforms, and AI tools.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline is preferred; advanced technical education or equivalent demonstrated experience in quantitative analysis, applied research, or complex engineering problem-solving is also valued.
• Hands-on Python experience for software prototyping, debugging, or automation is a strong plus.
• Knowledge of mathematical modeling, machine learning algorithms, or practical AI tools is advantageous.
• Willingness to travel at least 5% and ability to travel freely between the United States and Canada.
