This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Quality Assurance Engineer (Functional) based in the United States.
This fully remote role offers the opportunity to play a critical part in delivering reliable, high-quality software within a fast-moving engineering environment.
You’ll shape testing strategies for complex initiatives and work closely with software engineers and automation specialists throughout the development lifecycle.
The position combines hands-on functional testing with exploratory, integration, regression, cross-browser, security, and edge-case testing.
You’ll help teams improve testability, identify defects early, and ensure software releases meet business and user expectations.
The role also provides opportunities to mentor fellow QA professionals, contribute to Agile ceremonies, and share best practices across engineering teams.

Accountabilities
- Apply advanced manual testing techniques, methodologies, tools, and industry best practices across software development initiatives.
- Define comprehensive testing strategies for complex projects in collaboration with Software Development Engineers in Test and Software Engineers.
- Plan and execute functional, cross-browser, exploratory, security, regression, edge-case, and integration testing according to project requirements.
- Participate actively in Agile ceremonies, coordinating with Scrum team members and contributing to effective delivery and quality outcomes.
- Use tools such as TFS or Jira to create test scenarios, execute test cases, document results, and log defects based on user stories and acceptance criteria.
- Review user stories and acceptance criteria and provide actionable feedback regarding testability, completeness, and quality risks.
- Develop and maintain testing metrics related to test execution, results, defects, and overall quality performance.
- Support production implementations and help ensure releases are properly validated before deployment.
- Create and manage test data required for effective software test execution.
- Provide documentation and support client User Acceptance Testing (UAT) scenarios.
- Share knowledge of business processes, systems, architecture, products, and databases with Quality Analysts, Engineers, and other team members.
- Collaborate across disciplines to swarm on user stories and help Scrum teams resolve complex quality or delivery challenges.
- Lead and mentor other QA professionals, promoting consistent testing practices and quality standards.
- Research emerging QA tools, technologies, processes, and best practices, and help build consensus around their adoption.
- Continuously develop technical and industry knowledge through professional learning, technical resources, seminars, courses, and other relevant channels.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Business, or a related field.
- Strong hands-on experience in software quality assurance, with advanced knowledge of manual testing practices and methodologies.
- Professional experience within the financial services or retirement industry.
- Solid understanding and practical experience with Agile methodologies and frameworks.
- Strong knowledge of relational databases and SQL, including CRUD operations and multi-table joins.
- Experience testing web services using tools such as SOAP UI, Boomerang, Swagger, or comparable API testing platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to create and execute comprehensive functional and non-functional test scenarios.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to contribute to and lead collaborative problem-solving efforts.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce clear, concise technical documentation.
- Ability to lead, coach, and mentor other QA professionals and promote strong quality practices across teams.
- Strong collaboration skills and willingness to support colleagues across different disciplines within a Scrum environment.
- Ability to research new tools, technologies, processes, and best practices and effectively advocate for improvements.
- Interest in developing automation scripting and debugging capabilities.
- Strong understanding of test data preparation and management.
- Experience working with defect tracking and test management workflows.
- Mobile application testing experience is a plus.
- Exposure to automation scripting and debugging is a plus.
- Certified Associate in Software Testing (CAST) certification is a plus.
