Senior Mobile Engineer — iOS & Android
Location: Remote · Must work core hours in U.S. time zones · for a strong fit for overlap
Employment Type: Full-time · Available as contract (Talent on Demand)
Works with: Lead Developer and a Backend Developer
About the Company
We are a rapidly growing U.S.-based, AI-native product studio. We take companies from idea to launch-ready software in weeks, then partner with them through fast, two-week sprints to build and scale production systems. We have shipped 200+ products and hold a high bar on engineering quality even as we move quickly. Our team is fully distributed, and every engineer owns meaningful, visible work.
About the Role
We are building a mobile app for one of our clients — from first project setup through public App Store and Google Play release. The app is offline-first and built for frontline users on low-end devices and unreliable networks, so reliability and performance matter as much as features. We need a mobile engineer who can own the app end to end and ship four to five features per two-week sprint. This is an AI-first environment. Tools like Cursor, Claude Code, and coding agents write most of the first draft; you direct them, review every diff, and own what ships. Speed comes from tooling and judgment, not from skipping tests, reviews, or acceptance criteria. We are looking for a genuine engineer who uses AI to go faster, not someone who leans on it in place of craft.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Setup & Release Set up the iOS and Android projects, developer accounts, build pipeline, and release tracks Run TestFlight and Play testing tracks, store listings, privacy disclosures, and review submissions and fixes
- Offline-First Architecture & Sync Build an offline-first app: actions queue locally and sync once on reconnect, with no duplicate submissions and clean conflict handling Define the sync and upload APIs with the backend developer, and debug across the client-server boundary
- Core Mobile Features Implement phone-number sign-in with SMS one-time codes and device binding Build push notifications with SMS fallback Build camera document capture with compression and on-screen guidance Build in-app confirmation and e-signature flows that produce versioned, tamper-proof records Build a localized, bilingual interface
- Performance & Device Optimization Tune for low-end Android phones and poor connections: app size, memory, bandwidth, and startup time
- Quality & Monitoring Add crash reporting and sync monitoring, and test on real devices across the supported range Ship fast without lowering the bar: automated tests, CI, and reviews that catch what AI gets wrong
Required Qualifications
- 4+ years building mobile apps, with at least one app shipped to both the App Store and Google Play
- Hands-on experience with offline-first data and sync: local storage, queued writes, retries, and conflict handling
- Experience with authentication, push notifications, camera, and file upload on both platforms
- Experience optimizing for low-end Android devices and poor networks: app size, memory, and bandwidth
- Experience working through App Store and Play review, including privacy disclosures
- Comfortable agreeing API contracts with backend developers and debugging across the client-server boundary
- Daily, hands-on use of AI coding tools (Cursor, Claude Code, or similar) on production mobile work, with a workflow you can walk us through
- A track record of shipping fast without lowering the bar: automated tests, CI, and reviews that catch what AI gets wrong
- Strong written and spoken English — clear pull requests, early risk flags, and the ability to explain tradeoffs to a client team
- Able to work core hours in U.S. time zones
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with in-app e-signature or document workflows
- Experience building apps for frontline, field, or hourly workers
- Experience localizing apps, or Spanish (helpful for testing, though not required)
- Some backend experience — enough to help with platform work after the app ships
- Experience setting up agent workflows, project rules, or custom prompts that make a whole team faster with AI
Ideal Candidate Profile
You are a mobile engineer who has carried an app all the way to both stores and lived with it in production. You design for the worst network and the cheapest phone, not just the demo. You think about what happens when a user loses signal mid-action, when a retry fires twice, when a device gets swapped. You write clearly, flag risks early, and can agree an API contract with a backend engineer without friction. You use AI to move fast, and you review everything it writes.
Why Join Us
You will own a real app from an empty project to a public store release, ship visible work every sprint, and build for users who actually depend on it. If you want to do frontier AI-assisted mobile work on a lean, high-standards team, this is that seat.
