Job Description

About Us

Inca Digital is a veteran-owned data and intelligence company specializing in digital-asset analytics for exchanges, financial institutions, regulators, and blockchain ecosystems. We track blockchain transactions, liquidity movements, and illicit finance to help our clients identify risk and enhance transparency. Operating as a fast-paced, remote-first company, we leverage an asynchronous-first workflow, minimize time spent on meetings, and believe in open debate and logic over authority. By joining us, you will work alongside a sharp, cross-functional team that includes intelligence analysts, defense veterans, data engineers, and quant researchers.

Role Overview

We are seeking a sharp, detail-oriented Senior Accountant to take ownership of full-cycle accounting, project profitability, and daily financial operations. In this high-visibility role, you will manage multi-state and international payroll, lead AR/AP workflows, and partner directly with our Financial Controller on month-end close, revenue recognition, and financial reporting. Beyond traditional GL accounting, you will serve as a key operational partner to team leads, tracking client engagement burn rates, analyzing margin profitability, and optimizing labor utilization across our global tech team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Payroll & Benefits Administration
    • Process end-to-end multi-state semi-monthly/monthly payroll for salaried, hourly, and international contractor/employee teams using modern payroll systems.
    • Handle inquiries from DOL/DOR.
    • Address payroll-related queries from team members quickly and confidentially.
  • Month-End Close & Financial Reporting
    • Assist Financial Controller with the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close procedures to ensure timely and accurate GAAP compliance.
    • Prepare journal entries, bank reconciliations, prepaid expense schedules, and balance sheet reconciliations.
    • Assist with financial modeling, variance analysis (budget vs. actual), and management dashboard updates.
  • Accounts Receivable (AR) & Revenue Operations
    • Manage the complete AR cycle: generate invoices, track milestone billing, and maintain accurate customer accounts.
    • Monitor collections, resolve billing discrepancies with clients, and maintain clean revenue schedules.
    • Support revenue recognition schedules tailored to software models.
  • Client & Project Financial Management
    • Monitor project-level finances across active client engagements, including tracking total project expenditure, budget vs. actuals, and burn rates.
    • Calculate and report on client and project profitability, gross margins, and milestone completion metrics to guide leadership decisions.
    • Collaborate closely with Project Managers and Account Leads to align project billing schedules with deliverables and scope changes (SOWs/Change Orders).
    • Analyze employee and contractor billable rates, utilization metrics, and labor costs to ensure optimal resource allocation and project margins.
    • Establish standard financial reporting templates for client-facing projects to identify margin risks early and streamline revenue forecasting.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience: 3–6+ years of general accounting experience, with at least 2+ years specifically within a tech, startup, or software/tech services environment.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or active progress toward CPA is a plus).
  • Software Proficiency: Advanced experience with cloud ERP. Familiarity with project tracking and modern tech stack platforms.
  • Technical Accounting: Strong understanding of GAAP, multi-state payroll practices, project accounting, and revenue recognition basics.
  • Analytical Skills: Proven track record analyzing project costs, billable margins, and client profitability.
  • Communication: Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain financial metrics to non-finance team members clearly.

Why join us?

We operate in a fully remote, high-trust environment and we prioritize impact and delivered results over hours logged. We offer competitive compensation paired with a comprehensive benefits suite, including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k). We invest in our people through childcare and wellness stipends and dedicated employee assistance resources. Join a thought leader at the intersection of national security and digital assets, working with cutting-edge tech that defines the field.

Inclusion & Equal Opportunity
