Quality assurance manager energy

This is a senior quality leadership role supporting commercial nuclear projects and energy-sector operations. You will lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of a robust Quality Assurance program aligned with rigorous nuclear industry standards and regulatory requirements. The role combines program oversight, project QA, auditing, supplier qualification, corrective action, and continuous improvement. You will partner with engineering, procurement, business, and project management teams to embed quality requirements throughout the project lifecycle. You will also lead and develop QA and QC professionals while serving as a key point of contact for customers, regulators, and third-party auditors. The position offers the opportunity to strengthen nuclear safety culture, reduce risk, and ensure consistently high-quality products and services. This is a remote position based out of an Oak Ridge, Tennessee office.

Accountabilities:

• Quality Assurance Program Leadership: Lead, implement, maintain, and continuously improve the Quality Assurance program in accordance with commercial nuclear industry standards, including 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, NQA-1, customer requirements, contractual obligations, and applicable regulations.
• Project QA Oversight: Provide effective oversight of project QA programs and individual QA program elements, ensuring quality requirements are consistently integrated into project planning, execution, and delivery.
• QA Planning and Implementation: Prepare project-specific QA plans, coordinate QA activities, and lead implementation efforts to ensure projects meet established quality and compliance expectations.
• Contract and Requirements Review: Review customer contracts and project requirements to identify applicable QA obligations and develop policies, procedures, and controls that support compliance.
• Audits and Assessments: Develop and implement internal audit, management assessment, and surveillance schedules, supporting effective oversight and verification of quality performance.
• Corrective Action and Nonconformance: Review and approve nonconformance and condition reports, support corrective action plans, and verify the effective implementation of corrective measures.
• Root Cause Analysis: Prepare Apparent Cause Analyses and Root Cause Analyses when required for Conditions Adverse to Quality and Significant Conditions Adverse to Quality.
• Supplier Quality: Support supplier qualification and oversight activities, ensuring suppliers meet applicable quality standards and contractual requirements.
• Regulatory and Standards Compliance: Monitor changes to applicable codes, standards, regulations, and customer requirements and ensure relevant QA processes remain current and compliant.
• Training and Development: Provide direction, guidance, and training to QA and QC personnel, including facilitating and delivering commercial nuclear training and promoting awareness of quality requirements.
• People Leadership: Manage, coach, develop, and retain QA staff by establishing performance objectives, monitoring progress, conducting performance reviews, and providing ongoing feedback.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with engineering, procurement, business, and project management teams to ensure quality requirements are incorporated throughout the nuclear project lifecycle.
• Customer and Regulatory Interface: Engage with customers, regulators, and third-party auditors to demonstrate program compliance, address quality concerns, and support successful resolution of issues.
• Continuous Improvement: Lead initiatives that improve quality performance, reduce operational and project risk, strengthen processes, and reinforce a strong nuclear safety culture.

Requirements

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, a technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
• Industry Experience: At least 10 years of Quality Assurance oversight experience within the commercial nuclear industry.
• Nuclear Standards: Extensive knowledge of 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, NRC Regulatory Guide 1.28, and NQA-1, along with applicable nuclear quality codes, standards, regulations, and contractual requirements.
• Quality Systems: Strong knowledge of QA systems, particularly corrective action processes, supplier qualification, nonconformance management, audits, assessments, and quality program implementation.
• Regulatory Expertise: Demonstrated ability to prescribe, apply, interpret, and assess compliance with applicable nuclear quality codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
• QA Program Development: Intermediate knowledge of developing QA program and procedural documentation, including project-specific quality plans and supporting materials.
• Audit Certification: Certification as a Lead Auditor under NQA-1.
• Project Oversight: Proven ability to manage or monitor QA activities associated with a project or technical discipline on a day-to-day basis.
• Training Capability: Ability to administer, facilitate, and deliver commercial nuclear quality training to relevant personnel.
• Problem Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the judgment and experience required to address complex quality and compliance issues.
• Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with technical teams, project leadership, customers, regulators, auditors, and other stakeholders.
• Leadership: Demonstrated ability to establish objectives, monitor performance, develop employees, and create a culture of accountability, quality awareness, and continuous improvement.
• Work Authorization: U.S. citizenship is required for consideration.
