Overview

Client is staffing backend engineers for an engineering program at a fintech client. We are an AI-first engineering team building and shipping production systems across distributed architecture and financial payment flows.

Must have

• 7+ years of backend engineering experience with strong Java expertise
• Direct payments industry experience, with deep understanding of financial payment flows and distributed systems
• Hands-on experience with AWS and cloud-native architecture, plus Docker and containerized application development
• Experience designing and owning complex backend systems end to end, from HLD through production verification
• Experience with MySQL, Oracle, or similar relational databases at scale
• Proficiency with AI tools like Claude as part of everyday engineering workflow, and picking up new domains and context quickly
• Strong documentation habits: runbooks, testing guides, and knowledge sharing come naturally

Nice to have

• Familiarity with risk, fraud, or compliance systems
• Experience with Elixir or working in a multi-language environment
