Job Description

Financial Controller – Public Company (NASDAQ), Multi-Entity Consolidations

Location: Remote

Reports to: CFO / VP of Finance

Compensation: TBD

About the Company

We are a publicly traded, NASDAQ-listed company operating across multiple legal entities and currencies, with an active acquisition strategy. We are currently transitioning our accounting operations onto NetSuite as our system of record.

About the Role

This role exists to own the technical accounting close for a public company in the middle of two things at once: an active M&A cadence and a live system migration onto NetSuite. This is not a maintenance seat. The Controller will run the full monthly close in NetSuite, handle the technical accounting a public entity requires — equity, warrants, fair value, consolidations, foreign currency — and produce the consolidated financial statements and notes that support external reporting. Until NetSuite is fully operational, this person also carries the reconciliation between our legacy system (Abacus) and NetSuite, so comfort operating across two systems and cleaning up in-flight data is essential. The person who thrives here is a technical accountant who wants ownership, not oversight, and who can bring order to a fast-moving, imperfect environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • General Ledger & Month-End Close (NetSuite)
    • Own the monthly close: approve journal entries, bills, and new vendors
    • Reconcile bank accounts and maintain the integrity of the general ledger
    • Revalue foreign-currency accounts and close accounting periods on schedule
    • Maintain the chart of accounts, load new accounts, FX rates, and other master data
    • Reconcile balances between Abacus and NetSuite through the migration (temporary), and help retire the dual-system process as NetSuite stabilizes
  • Technical & Company-Level Accounting
    • Account for equity activity end to end: grants, exercises, vesting, expirations, conversions, issuances, and capital raises (ASC 718)
    • Record changes in fair value of warrant liabilities and public investments, and support related fair-value measurement (ASC 815 / 480 / 321 / 820)
    • Reconcile payroll liability accounts
    • Reconcile intercompany balances across entities
  • Consolidations & M&A Accounting
    • Consolidate existing entities and integrate new acquisitions (ASC 810 / 805)
    • Deconsolidate wind-ups, dispositions, and other structural changes
    • Prepare consolidation and elimination entries
    • Perform the consolidated cash flow proof
  • Financial Reporting
    • Prepare consolidated financial statements and accompanying notes
    • Support external reporting requirements as a NASDAQ-listed filer
    • Provide clean, audit-ready workpapers and schedules
  • Systems & Process
    • Serve as a functional owner of NetSuite from an accounting-operations standpoint
    • Improve close processes and controls as the company scales its entity footprint

Required Qualifications

  • Active CPA (or international equivalent)
  • Public company accounting experience, or public accounting (audit) experience serving public company clients
  • Multi-entity consolidation experience, including intercompany eliminations
  • Multi-currency / foreign exchange accounting experience (ASC 830)
  • Hands-on NetSuite experience
  • Demonstrated technical accounting judgment (equity, fair value, consolidation)
  • Strong written English and the ability to communicate clearly with a U.S.-based finance team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Big 4 or national public accounting background
  • Direct SEC reporting exposure (10-Q / 10-K support)
  • Equity and warrant accounting experience at a venture- or public-market-backed company
  • M&A integration and purchase accounting experience
  • SOX / internal controls experience
  • Experience running or supporting an ERP migration (NetSuite implementation a strong plus)

Ideal Candidate Profile

You are technically deep and detail-obsessed, but you do not need a clean environment to do your best work. You are comfortable closing the books in one system while reconciling against another, and you can tell the difference between a real problem and noise. You have sat with hard technical questions — how to book a warrant revaluation, how to eliminate intercompany across a new acquisition — and worked them to a defensible answer. You operate with ownership: in a remote role supporting a U.S. public company, you move things forward without waiting to be managed, and you flag risk early rather than at close. You communicate clearly in writing, document your work so an auditor can follow it, and hold a high bar because you understand the stakes of getting a public company's numbers right.
