Purpose and Impact:
The Photonics Technology Branch develops components and techniques for electro-optic, RF, and communication systems of interest to the Navy. Emphasis is given to optical technologies used for free-space communications, fiber lasers, solid-state lasers, microwave photonics systems, fiber communications, fiber sensing, and optical computing. Advanced technology for RF-Microwave and electronic warfare systems is being developed.
Work Schedule:
9-5/40 Hour Week
Essential Responsibilities:
- System level design and modeling support. Support the team in developing system level models and simulating the performance of photonic signal processing engines for target applications.
- Photonic integrated circuit (PIC) design. This duty includes contributing to the overall PIC architecture, performing simulations of individual PIC components, and generating the PIC layout for the foundry tape-out.
- PIC packaging. Design the PIC packaging and breakout boards. Work with vendors as needed to acquire and package PICs including PCB design and tape-out, wire bonding, and fiber attach. Perform preliminary testing to validate PIC packaging.
