Job Description

West Coast based, city flexible.

National territory, weighted West

Reports to: Chief Sales Officer

Goal:

Open doors and win new accounts. Put Digs in front of every retailer that should be carrying it.

About Digs

Digs is a specialty potato company, vertically integrated from genetics to final packaging. We're building a high-growth brand that is rethinking what potatoes can be for consumers and retailers alike. We believe the potato is an unsung hero, and that it deserves a great story, beautiful packaging, and a best-in-class sales team.

Why this role exists

Digs is on shelf with national retailers and growing quickly, but most of the country still doesn't know us. This seat exists to change that, one retailer at a time, starting in the West.

Position overview

The Director of Sales owns new account acquisition nationally, with the Western U.S. and Midwest as the first territory to capture. This is a road seat for a hunter who pairs relentless prospecting with the discipline to run a long programmatic category sale: knowing every target's review, reset, and RFQ calendar, and being positioned before the window opens.

Key responsibilities

  • Own new account acquisition nationally, weighted to the Western U.S. and Midwest, against a maintained target list of priority retailers.
  • Prospect relentlessly: set meetings, open doors, and refuse to take no.
  • Build retailer-specific strategies and standout presentations for every meaningful opportunity.
  • Run the long game: know every target's category review, reset, and RFQ calendar, and be positioned before the window opens.
  • Team-sell: bring in the Chief Sales Officer and CEO at the right moment and use the brand story to close.
  • Hand off cleanly: introduce Account Management jointly, stay through the first orders, then transfer the account.
  • Own the CRM for the pipeline: targets, meetings, stages, next steps, and outcomes.
  • Drive the broker network for appointments in the near term while building the direct retailer coverage that replaces it.
  • Represent Digs at trade shows and industry events with a target list and booked meetings in advance, and follow-ups after.
  • Quote within company pricing guardrails.
  • Carry P&L and budgeting responsibility for the territory: profitable growth, not just volume.

What success looks like

  • New accounts convert on a predictable cadence, measured in purchase orders and repeat volume.
  • A real pipeline exists in the CRM, with every priority target at a known stage and a dated next step.
  • Target retailers know Digs before we get in the room.
  • Won accounts transfer cleanly and keep growing after handoff.
  • Trade shows produce booked meetings and documented follow-ups.
  • Profitable territory growth, captured account by account.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years in produce, CPG, or food retail sales with a track record of opening and growing new accounts.
  • A true hunter profile: prospecting, meeting-setting, and closing. Comfortable being told no and coming back anyway.
  • Ready to contribute immediately with existing relationships and a working playbook.
  • Direct experience with Western U.S. retail accounts required; existing Western retailer and broker relationships strongly preferred.
  • Branded-retail and product fluency, produce-first.
  • Highly organized; able to run a disciplined personal cadence across pipeline, prep, and follow-up.
  • P&L and budgeting experience.
  • Degree preferred; equivalent practical experience considered.

This role is for you if

  • You are a hunter who is energized by opening doors and winning accounts.
  • You would rather chase ten new logos than manage ten existing ones.
  • You run your own disciplined cadence without being managed into it.
  • You want to own a territory and build it, not inherit a finished book.
  • You are motivated by visible, measurable results.

This role is not for you if

  • You need warm leads handed to you.
  • You are a relationship-only builder without a hunting gear.
  • You want to settle into a stable book of accounts and manage it.
  • You avoid follow-through discipline or detailed prep.
  • You are uncomfortable with high expectations and visible performance.

Work environment and travel

This is a road role. A West Coast base is required, though the specific city is flexible, because this seat lives on the road: customer visits, retailer meetings, broker coordination, and trade shows across a national territory weighted toward the West and Midwest, with heavier intensity during key selling and show seasons.

Compensation and benefits

Competitive base compensation; final range confirmed based on experience and location.
Performance bonus eligibility tied to new account acquisition and territory growth.
Health, dental, and vision benefits.
Paid time off.
Vehicle allowance or travel reimbursement.
