Position Summary

Data Engineer will work closely with a multidisciplinary Agile team to build high-quality data pipelines that drive optimized and scalable cloud-based solutions for DBA. This holistic ecosystem, under the care and iterative maintenance of the Senior DE, will generate critical insights from streams of logically and operationally interconnected data, thereby enabling DBA and its stakeholders to leverage a multitude of data-driven capabilities. This role requires a good understanding of data architecture, cloud engineering, data engineering, data analysis, data quality, and a basic understanding of data science techniques and workflows. The ideal candidate is a skilled data or software engineer with experience creating robust, "ready to consume” data products. The ideal candidate also has previous experience working within an Agile team and its different subdisciplines; is curious and hungry to explore new tools; works with extreme independence; provides accountability for their work products; openly gives their knowledge back to their peers in the DE Chapter; and most importantly, embodies the Culture, Care, and Collaboration that are the foundational concepts of DBA.

Baseline Job Responsibilities

  • Develop, optimize, and maintain data architecture and pipelines that adhere to rigorous industry standards and DE-centric best practices.
  • Excel in a culture of open collaboration, code re-usability, and technical design for scalability and stability, in service to maximizing operational efficiency within the "data mesh” paradigm.
  • Learn, develop with and implement emerging tools and processes that achieve tangible cost savings to DBA and its stakeholders.
  • Challenge existing paradigms with innovative thinking.
  • Propose and implement improvements that enhance efficiency, scalability, and effectiveness in data solutions.
  • Build reusable data solutions and ensure thorough documentation that facilitates understanding and adoption across the team.
  • A commitment to continuous learning and personal development.
  • A proactive approach to staying current with industry advancements coupled with a practical understanding of prioritizing business deliverables.
  • Maintain clear and concise documentation.
  • Present your findings and solutions effectively to diverse stakeholders with partnership from seniors engineer and Architects.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams that consists of Product Owners, Agile Coaches, App Architects, BI Engineers, and Data Scientists.

Domain Expertise

  • Bachelor's degree required. (Computer Science, MIS, IST, or Engineering preferred.)
  • 4+ years of previous experience working in a data or software engineering role.
  • Expert within the Data & Analytics discipline, including dimensional modeling, ETL/ELT, data warehousing and SQL, data collection, data transformation and quality checks on structured and unstructured data. (Experience with DBT preferred.)
  • Expert in Python programming including packages such as pandas, numpy, matplotlib etc.
  • Expert in working with source control platforms (GitHub preferred.)
  • Skilled in database development using Hadoop or a similar technology, with a variety of experiences pertaining to relational databases, NoSQL, and cloud database technologies (Snowflake preferred.)
  • Skilled in developing and maintaining data warehouses on Big Data platforms.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS cloud computing platform and their package of services (Associate or specialty AWS certification preferred.)

Nice-To-Have:

  • Experience or conceptual knowledge of machine learning, data science, artificial intelligence, statistics, and/or applied mathematics.
  • Experience with SAP or another ERP platform.
  • Conceptual knowledge or basic experience with Event-based Architecture.

Agile Experience:

  • Experience working within a collaborative Agile product team and contributing to/defining the team's Ways of Working.
  • Experience with ticketing system tools and digital documentation platforms (JIRA and Confluence preferred.)

Individual Skills:

  • Self-motivated, with strong problem-solving skills, a desire to self-educate, and integrate seamlessly within a highly motivated and highly regarded DE chapter.
  • Reacts quickly, calmly, and methodically to unexpected changes in project requirements.
