Job Description

About Primordial Labs

We're building the next generation interface for commanding autonomous systems in the real world. Our core product, Anura, translates spoken or typed intent into structured actions across drones, sensors, and mission software—enabling faster, more intuitive control in high-stakes environments. We’re a distributed team of engineers, operators, and technologists focused on deploying reliable autonomy at the tactical edge.

The Opportunity

As the Communications Manager at Primordial Labs, you will be the primary architect of our public narrative, ensuring the world understands our technology and the value it brings to our customers. You will work at the intersection of deep tech and national security, turning complex AI products like Anura, into compelling messaging for the media, stakeholders, and the warfighter. The role shapes the product narrative, builds relationships with defense, national security, and tech journalists, prepares leadership for interviews and speaking engagements, and supports government affairs, including engaging with Hill staff, think tanks, and our GA firms. You’ll work closely with the Marketing Director to keep messaging consistent across every channel. Joining our fully remote team means you’ll have the autonomy to drive high-impact PR strategies while working alongside world-class engineers and former special operators to safeguard national security.

What You'll Do

  • Strategic Storytelling: Owning the end to end narrative for our product, helping to craft everything from high-level op-eds to punchy product launch announcements.
  • Media Relations: Building and maintaining deep relationships with top-tier defense trade, national security, and tech journalists to secure high value media placements.
  • Executive Visibility: Preparing our leadership team for interviews, speaking engagements, and industry demos, ensuring our "voice" is consistent and authoritative.
  • Policy and Government Affairs Support: Shape positioning with Hill staff, our lobbying firms, think tanks, and the policy community.
  • Integrated Campaigns: Collaborating with our marketing, growth, and engineering teams to launch multi-channel campaigns that highlight our mission impact at major events like SOF Week or AUSA.
  • Internal & Brand Comms: Keep a growing team aligned on company messaging, news, and external comms policies.

About You

  • Proven Experience: 5+ years in strategic communications, PR, or journalism, specifically within the defense, aerospace, or deep tech sectors.
  • Technical Translation: Ability to take "engineer-speak" and turn it into clear, mission-focused content for non-technical audiences.
  • Exceptional Writing: Mastery of AP Style and a track record of crafting tight, memorable narratives under tight deadlines.
  • Media Savvy: Demonstrated success in pitching stories and managing complex media inquiries in a highly regulated industry.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Security Clearance: An active Secret (or higher) security clearance is a major plus.
  • Military Familiarity: Experience working as (or with) a Military Public Affairs Officer (PAO) or a deep understanding of DoD structure.
  • Startup Agility: Experience in a fast-paced "build-fast" environment where you are comfortable being a team of one for all things comms.
  • Visual Storytelling: Basic proficiency in tools like Figma, Canva, or Adobe Creative Suite to help visualize our tech for social media.

Important Qualification Note: Due to the nature of our work and federal compliance requirements, this position strictly requires U.S. Citizenship and current residency within the United States. Please note that Permanent Residency (Green Card status) or visa sponsorship cannot satisfy these specific regulatory requirements.

Compensation

Compensation for this position includes a target base salary of $130,000 - $160,000 annually, with the specific figure determined by the candidate's experience level. We’re committed to fair and equitable compensation and are happy to explain how we determine our salary ranges, just ask!

Our Benefits

  • Beyond a Competitive Salary, we provide a significant equity stake, aligning your growth with ours.
  • 100% Remote: This role is fully remote, open to residents across the US. We believe that talent knows no borders (well, except for the US in this case!).
  • Comprehensive Health Coverage: We provide comprehensive medical, dental, and vision plans so you and your family can stay healthy and worry free.
  • Retirement Planning: Plan for tomorrow with our 401(k) package, complete with a generous 6% company match.
  • Generous DTO: Our generous Discretionary Time off (DTO) policy is all about helping you take the breaks you deserve and live your healthiest, most fulfilling life.
  • Elite Technology Package: Enjoy an elite technology package to make your work effortless and efficient.

Our Interview Process

Our interview process is designed to be thorough and respectful of your time. It typically includes:

  • Conversation with the People Team: Lets get to know one another first!
  • Interview: A 45-minute discussion about relevant communications concepts and your past experience.
  • Portfolio Overview: This session is designed for us to dive into your real-world work, your storytelling approach, and how you translate complex technology into compelling narratives. You’ll walk us through 2–3 case studies or pieces from your past experience that highlight your strategic thinking, messaging skills, and execution across media relations, executive communications, or product announcements.
  • Team Interviews: Collaboration is at the heart of what we do. During this stage, you’ll meet your prospective peers to discuss our team dynamics, project workflows, and how we work together to win.

We are committed to a low-stress interview experience—no trick questions or brain teasers!
