Your Role at SafelyYou

SafelyYou's legal function is at an important inflection point. As the company scales, we are seeking an experienced and versatile Associate General Counsel to join our growing legal team. This is a generalist in-house role with a substantive emphasis on commercial contracting and legal operations. You will be the second attorney in SafelyYou's history, partnering closely with the VP of Legal & Compliance to build a scalable, high-performing legal function.

In this role, you will serve as a trusted legal advisor across the organization — negotiating enterprise agreements, supporting cross-functional partners, and designing the systems and processes that enable SafelyYou to operate efficiently and responsibly as it grows. Given SafelyYou's position at the intersection of artificial intelligence, healthcare data, and senior care, this role carries meaningful responsibility around AI governance and privacy compliance. It is an opportunity to do consequential, high-visibility legal work in a domain that matters.

Key Responsibilities:

• Commercial Contracting
  • Serve as the primary legal partner for the Sales and Customer Success organizations, leading the drafting, negotiation, and lifecycle management of the full range of commercial agreements — including Master Service Agreements, Order Forms, Change Orders, and Data Processing / Privacy Agreements — across customer relationships, including enterprise deals with capital partners and senior living operators.
  • Build and maintain contract playbooks, standard positions, and fallback frameworks that enable the business to operate efficiently and consistently while managing legal and commercial risk.
  • Support and advise on inbound vendor and partner agreements, including those involving sensitive data processing, AI subprocessors, or third-party integrations.
• Legal Operations
  • Design and implement scalable processes, templates, and self-service resources that keep Legal from becoming a bottleneck as the company grows.
  • Own and administer SafelyYou's contract lifecycle management (CLM) platform (SpotDraft), including template management, workflow automation, approval routing, and reporting.
  • Develop and maintain internal legal guides, FAQs, and training materials that empower business partners to make informed, compliant decisions independently — particularly on matters involving customer data and AI.
  • Track and report on contract pipeline and key legal metrics to help the team prioritize effectively and demonstrate business value.
• AI Governance & Privacy Compliance
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, and the Regulatory Affairs team to ensure that data handling practices and AI model governance considerations are appropriately reflected in commercial agreements and customer-facing representations.
  • Support the development and maintenance of contractual frameworks governing AI use — including relevant provisions in customer MSAs, vendor agreements, and DPAs — in close coordination with the Regulatory Affairs Manager.
  • Stay current on key legal and regulatory developments in AI and healthcare data (including HIPAA and emerging AI frameworks) as they affect commercial contracting, and flag contract-relevant implications to the legal team.
• Cross-Functional Partnership
  • Triage and resolve legal issues across the organization, serving as a responsive, pragmatic legal resource for teams including Sales, Customer Success, Product, Engineering, Marketing, Finance, and People Operations.
  • Build Legal's credibility and visibility across SafelyYou through proactive communication, structured legal education, and a consistent reputation for enabling — rather than blocking — business objectives.

The Ideal Candidate:

Required

• J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school; active bar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• 4–8 years of transactional legal experience with a substantive focus on commercial contracting, acquired in-house, at a law firm, or a combination of both.
• Demonstrated experience building or significantly improving legal operations infrastructure: you have stood up or materially enhanced a CLM platform, built contract playbooks, and designed scalable legal workflows.
• Working knowledge of privacy law and healthcare data frameworks, including HIPAA.
• Experience negotiating sophisticated enterprise agreements, including multi-party deals and agreements involving data processing or AI-powered services.
• A practical, business-oriented approach to legal risk — you help stakeholders understand their options and make well-informed decisions, rather than defaulting to reflexive caution.
• Comfort with ambiguity, pace, and the evolving priorities of a high-growth technology company.

Salary Range: $140,000 - $180,000 commensurate with experience
