This is a part-time, event based, union, hourly position paying $20.00 per hour.
Job Summary
Guest Services Team Members are responsible for creating a welcoming, safe, and positive experience for all guests attending events at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Team members serve as a primary point of contact for guests, providing assistance with seating, directions, accessibility needs, event information, venue policies, and general inquiries.
The ideal candidate is friendly, professional, dependable, and service-oriented, with strong communication skills and the ability to remain calm and helpful in a fast-paced, high-volume event environment. Team members must be comfortable interacting with diverse groups of guests and working effectively both independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Greet and welcome guests as they enter Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum with a friendly and professional demeanor.
- Scan guest tickets and verify that guests have valid tickets, credentials, or other authorized access.
- Assist guests with locating their seats, sections, entrances, restrooms, concessions, suites, and other venue amenities.
- Check tickets and credentials when guests are attempting to access restricted or designated seating areas.
- Provide accurate directions and helpful information regarding the venue, event, schedule, and available services.
- Provide assistance to guests with accessibility needs and ensure they are directed to appropriate resources and accommodations.
- Maintain a visible and approachable presence throughout the assigned area-create fun, friendly, safe, and welcoming environment.
- Respond promptly and professionally to guest questions, complaints, concerns, comments, and requests for assistance.
- Listen to guest concerns, demonstrate empathy, and take appropriate action to resolve issues or escalate them to a Manager or Supervisor when necessary.
- Maintain a visible and approachable presence throughout the assigned area.
- Demonstrate excellent customer service and maintain a positive attitude when interacting with guests, vendors, employees, performers, and event personnel.
- Follow all operating policies, procedures, safety protocols, and Guest Services standards. Communicate and enforce venue policies and procedures in a professional and respectful manner.
- Accurately communicate event, venue, and operational information to guests.
- Memorize, recall, and communicate relevant information regarding events, seating, venue services, policies, and procedures.
- Complete all assigned tasks within established guidelines and deadlines set by Guest Services Managers and Supervisors.
- Demonstrate flexibility and the ability to transition between various assignments and responsibilities while maintaining efficiency and professionalism.
- Maintain confidentiality of company, guest, event, and operational information.
- Communicate effectively with Guest Services leadership and other venue departments to address guest needs and operational concerns.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Minimum of one (1) year of customer service experience; experience in a sports, entertainment, arena, theater, hospitality, or similar high-volume environment preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to read, write, and understand English in a professional working environment.
- Friendly, outgoing, approachable, and guest-focused personality. Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and courteous when handling challenging guest interactions.
- Ability to take direction and follow established policies and procedures.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable, punctual, and consistent attendance. Must be available to work a minimum of 70% of scheduled events each month.
- Must have reliable transportation to and from Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum for scheduled shifts.
- Must maintain a neat, well-groomed appearance and professional demeanor at all times.
- Basic computer skills preferred.
- Must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and varying event schedules.
Work Conditions & Physical Requirements
The physical demands described below are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
Work is performed with moderate supervision. Position requires extensive standing and walking, typically 4–6 hours per event, with some shifts lasting longer than six hours. Must be able to continuously walk, stand, and move throughout the venue for extended periods. Employees may be assigned to work indoors or outdoors, including positions exposed to varying weather conditions. Employees may be required to work in crowded, high-volume environments with elevated noise levels. Employees may be scheduled to work late evening or overnight events, including shifts ending at 12:00 AM or later. Must be able to safely navigate stairs, ramps, aisles, concourses, and other areas of the venue as required by the assignment.
