Maintaining the financial health of our community of hospitals and providers, while supporting patients in understanding and managing their healthcare expenses is an essential responsibility of a Biller Associate. You’re a vital liaison for billing activities related to Medicare, Medicaid, and all third-party payors. As you navigate complex billing and insurance requirements, your knowledge of insurance plans, government healthcare programs, and private insurers shines through as does your respect for patient confidentiality and their hard-earned dollars.

Your Everyday

  • Maintain responsibility of the timely submission of all hospital claims assigned.
  • Work daily electronic billing file and submits insurance claims to third-party payers; reviews daily edit reports from the hospital billing system and makes necessary corrections to allow electronic submission.
  • Review error reports from electronic payers; identifies errors and makes appropriate corrections to ensure accurate claim submission.
  • Monitor claim rejections for trends and issues and reports findings to supervisor.
  • Prepare and submit manual insurance claims to third-party payers who do not accept electronic claims or who require special handling.
  • Coordinate medical record requests as needed.
  • Document billing activity on the patient account; ensures hospital compliance with all state and federal billing regulations and report any suspected compliance issues to the billing manager and/or Supervisor.
  • Work with supervision, management, and the patient accounting staff to improve processes, increase accuracy, create efficiencies, and achieve the overall goals of the department.
  • Observe best practice processes in billing, follow-up, and customer service activities.
  • Act in accordance with LCMC’s mission and values, while serving as a role model for ethical behavior.
  • Adhere to federal and state regulations related to the protection of patient information (e.g., the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) as well as facility-specific guidelines.

The Must-Haves

Minimum:

  • High School Diploma / GED or equivalent.
  • 1 year of experience in healthcare billing, collections, payment processing, and denial management.
