ROLE PURPOSE:

The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for the troubleshooting and repair of the mechanical equipment throughout the site using personal decision-making to insure minimal disruption to the production process. This department is scheduled to provide services to the entire facility 7 days a week. A Mechanic may be required to work in one or more plant areas, doing one or multiple assignments during any given work-shift. Call-ins are a requirement of this position. This position requires a high level of self-management, punctuality, good attendance, and the ability to adjust to a variety of assignments.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Repair, replacement and installation of equipment including pumps, screw conveyors, rotary valves, relief valves, motors, conveyors, and its auxiliaries like pipes, flanges, gaskets, mechanical seals, filters.
• Align, disassemble and rebuild production equipment such as reciprocating compressors, steam turbines, bearing members, gearboxes and pumps.
• Utilization of micrometers and calipers to repair equipment; operation of drill press, hydraulic press, pedestal grinder, mill equipment and lathes.
• Work independently or in small groups to install, repair and replace equipment, including pumps, valves, motors, and other process equipment.
• Work independently or in pairs to repair equipment at workstation. Uses a variety of handheld tools which must be grasped manually, applying as much as 100 pounds of torque to disassemble mechanical units. Tools may be manual, electrical or pneumatic in nature, requiring adequate grip for safe operation.
• Walk/Stand upon a variety of surfaces to transport materials, equipment and tools between work areas. Required to stand approximately 5-6 hours per day. Standing/walking takes place upon concrete, asphalt, metal grated and diamond steel plated walkways and stairways. Required to climb as high as 5 flights of stairs 3-4 times a day to reach work area. Must be able to kneel, crouch, or crawl to reach restricted access work areas a minimum of 1-2 times daily.
• Work in varying environmental conditions. Required to work primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions. Outside temperatures may range from -32°F to an excess of 100°F. Indoor temperatures can be 110°F or higher. May be required to work 8-Hour shifts, 12-Hour shifts, rotating shifts, nights, weekends, holidays to maintain operation of a 24/7/365 plant operation.

Food Safety:

Carry out responsibilities/duties according to food safety, legal and quality requirements to ensure that our products are fit for human consumption.

Environment:

Comply with all environmental standards, procedures, and work instructions always. Report any environmental violation or near misses to prevent any impact upon the local environment, its inhabitants and Tate & Lyle.

Health & Safety:

Adhere to the safety policies, procedures, and site rules. Fully participate in the safety program, including reporting any incidents or near misses and auditing.

SKILLS, TRAINING and EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• High School diploma or equivalent with minimum 2 years of experience as mechanic on industry and/or technical education on industrial maintenance or mechanic.
• Minimum 2 years Maintenance experience in a manufacturing/industrial environment.
• Must be able to read and write and possess competency in basic mathematics.
• Experience in troubleshooting and repair of the mechanical and equipment throughout the site.
• Knowledgeable in types and uses of valves.
• The ability to change/repair and align pumps.
• Experience in precision measuring instruments such as micrometers and calipers to repair equipment; and operating a drill press, hydraulic press, pedestal grinder, mill equipment and lathes.
• Familiar with reading and working from blueprints and/or single line drawings.
• Experience with maintaining high speed rotating equipment, such as turbines and compressors (preferred).
• Ability to align, troubleshoot, disassemble and rebuild production equipment such as reciprocating compressors, steam turbines and centrifugal pumps (preferred).
• Basic welding skills (preferred).
• Ability to use computerized maintenance software.
• Must be able to understand and comply with GMP regulations.
• Good understanding of Electrical, Instrumentation and Hand Tools.
• Knowledge of how to work with Hart Communicator, a multi meter, basic computer skills. Knowledge on how to calibrate instruments (flow, pressure, level). Knowledge on how to read and troubleshoot electrical diagram.
