Do you enjoy lifeguarding and have a passion for helping others learn lifesaving skills? Countryside YMCA is seeking an experienced Lifeguard & Certification Instructor to join our Aquatics team! This full-time position offers a unique opportunity to combine active lifeguarding with teaching lifeguard certification and recertification courses. You'll spend time on the pool deck ensuring a positive experience for members while also preparing new lifeguards and helping current staff maintain their certifications. If you enjoy being in the water, working with people, and sharing your knowledge with others, we'd love to have you on our team!

What You'll Do

• Perform regular lifeguarding duties, including actively monitoring swimming areas, enforcing pool rules, and responding to emergencies.
• Prepare and teach monthly lifeguard certification and recertification classes.
• Assist with teaching Adult and Pediatric First Aid, CPR, and AED certification courses for YMCA employees and community participants.
• Conduct lifeguard orientations and support ongoing staff training.
• Assist with lifeguard scheduling, supervision, and coverage as needed.
• Work with aquatics leadership to coordinate and document required lifeguard in-service training.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming pool environment.
• Build positive relationships with members, participants, and fellow staff.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

• Must be at least 21 years old.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a head lifeguard, aquatic supervisor, or aquatic coordinator.
• Current YMCA of the USA or American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification.
• Current American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor Certification.
• Ability to successfully complete a criminal background check.
• Strong communication and instructional skills.
• Dependability, professionalism, and a commitment to providing excellent member service.
• Ability to perform required lifeguarding, swimming, and rescue responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

• YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification.
• Basic knowledge of pool chemistry and aquatic facility operations.
