As the Immigration Attorney, you will provide high-quality legal representation to refugees, immigrants, and migrants navigating the immigration system, including individuals in removal proceedings. Working as part of a collaborative team of attorneys and legal staff, you will represent clients before immigration courts and federal agencies, file affirmative and defensive applications, and guide legal assistants, student interns, and pro bono attorneys in support of the program's work. This role is built for an attorney with experience in immigration court proceedings who is ready to help contribute to a mission-driven legal team serving some of our community's most vulnerable members.
This position is based primarily in a professional office environment, utilizing standard office equipment including computers, phones, and filing systems. The role is primarily sedentary, with occasional filing tasks that may require lifting files, opening cabinets, and brief periods of standing or bending. The role requires regular local travel to meet with clients, attend court hearings, and engage with community partners and legal service providers.
This position works directly with refugees, immigrants, and migrants, including individuals in removal proceedings who may have experienced significant trauma, displacement, and uncertainty. The work requires sound independent judgment, strong advocacy skills, and the ability to manage complex, high-stakes legal matters with professionalism and care. The pace can be demanding, with competing deadlines across active caseloads, grant reporting requirements, and court schedules.
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
This position is scheduled to work 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with occasional flexibility for evenings and weekends as case and court schedules require. This position requires in-person client interaction and cannot be performed fully remotely.
