Position Summary

The HR Assistant supports the Human Resources department in daily administrative and operational functions, including onboarding, employee record maintenance, compliance documentation, learning & development and recruitment. This role requires strong organizational skills, discretion with confidential information, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced nonprofit environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support new hire onboarding, including preparing orientation materials and processing required documentation
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records in compliance with agency policy and regulatory requirements (e.g., OPWDD, Justice Center)
  • Assist with tracking training compliance (e.g., SCIP-R, AMAP, CPR/First Aid)
  • Respond to routine employee inquiries regarding HR policies, benefits, employment verifications and procedures
  • Support benefits administration tasks, including enrollment processing and updates
  • Assist with preparation of HR reports, correspondence, and documentation as needed
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive employee and organizational information
  • Provide general administrative support to the HR team, including filing, data entry, and scheduling

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred
  • 1+ years of administrative or HR-related experience preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook); experience with HRIS/applicant tracking systems (e.g., Paycom) a plus
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Experience in a nonprofit or human services setting preferred
