Health & welfare benefits manager - global industrial

SUMMARY:

The Health & Welfare Benefits Manager is responsible for the design, administration, compliance, vendor management, and continuous improvement of the Company's health and welfare programs in the US, Canada and Mexico. This role serves as the subject matter expert for medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, wellness, and leave programs. The Health & Welfare Benefits Manager collaborates closely with Human Resources Shared Services, Payroll, Finance, Legal, and external partners to deliver competitive, compliant, and cost-effective benefits that support employee well-being, attraction, engagement, and retention.

JOB DUTIES

• Manage the administration and ongoing effectiveness of all health and welfare benefit programs, including medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, disability, wellness, and leave programs.
• Manage the strategy, administration, vendor management, and continuous improvement of the Company's wellbeing program, including physical, emotional, financial, and social wellbeing initiatives.
• Integrate wellbeing strategies with health management, preventive care, disease management, and overall benefits initiatives to support a healthier workforce.
• Assist in leading annual benefit planning, renewals, and open enrollment activities, including project management, employee communications, testing, and implementation.
• Partner with brokers, consultants, carriers, and third-party administrators to evaluate plan performance, service levels, and cost management opportunities.
• Analyze claims, utilization, employee feedback, and market trends to identify recommendations that enhance employee experience and optimize benefit investments.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, FMLA, and Section 125 requirements.
• Coordinate required regulatory filings, notices, audits, and documentation related to health and welfare programs.
• Manage vendor relationships and hold partners accountable for service delivery, operational performance, and contractual obligations.
• Develop and deliver employee communications, educational materials, and resources to improve benefits understanding and engagement.
• Partner with HRIS, Payroll, and Benefits Operations teams to ensure accurate eligibility, enrollment, deductions, and reporting processes.
• Support annual budgeting and forecasting activities by monitoring benefit costs and financial performance.
• Develop metrics, dashboards, and presentations for HR leadership to evaluate program effectiveness and support decision-making.
• Act as a point of escalation for complex employee benefit issues and ensure timely resolution.
• Identify and implement process improvements that enhance operational efficiency and the employee experience.
• Oversee the administration and governance of participant benefit appeals, ensuring timely review, thorough investigation, accurate interpretation of plan provisions, and preparation of Committee materials and appeal determinations in accordance with plan documents and applicable regulations.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.

Five (5) or more years of progressive benefits experience, with significant responsibility for health and welfare programs.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

• Strong knowledge of employee benefits regulations and compliance requirements.
• Experience managing vendor, carrier, consultant, and third-party administrator relationships.
• Strong analytical, financial, problem-solving, and project management skills.
• Experience supporting open enrollment and benefits communication strategies.
• Proficiency with HRIS and benefits administration platforms.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

• CEBS, CBP, SHRM-CP/SCP, PHR/SPHR, or similar professional certification.
• Experience with self-funded and fully-insured health plans.
• Experience supporting a multi-state employee population.
• Knowledge of leave administration, wellbeing initiatives, and population health strategies.
• Experience with benefits analytics and data-driven decision-making.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Principal duties of this job are performed primarily in an office environment, with occasional field duties. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to stand and walk short distances between work sites. Must be able to work in a corporate office setting.
