Director of Finance

Location: Charlottesville, VA (On-site)

Salary: From $120,000 to $140,000 annually (Depending on Experience)

Summary

We are partnering with a well-established organization seeking an experienced Director of Finance to lead and strengthen its finance and accounting operations. This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for financial reporting, cash flow management, internal controls, budgeting, forecasting, compliance, and developing a high-performing finance team. The ideal candidate is a strategic leader who also enjoys being actively involved in day-to-day financial operations.

Responsibilities

• Lead all accounting and financial reporting activities.
• Oversee general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, reconciliations, and month-end/year-end close.
• Prepare and review accurate financial statements and reports for executive leadership.
• Manage daily cash flow, treasury functions, banking relationships, and rolling cash flow forecasts.
• Develop annual budgets, financial forecasts, and business performance analyses.
• Strengthen internal controls, accounting procedures, and financial reporting processes.
• Identify financial risks and implement practical process improvements.
• Coordinate tax filings, financial audits, and regulatory compliance.
• Develop financial models, dashboards, KPIs, and executive reporting.
• Partner with leadership to support strategic planning and business decisions.
• Lead, mentor, and develop the finance and accounting team while fostering accountability and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience.
• 5+ years of leadership experience managing finance or accounting teams.
• Strong background in: Financial reporting, Month-end close, Budgeting and forecasting, Cash flow management, Internal controls, Financial analysis.
• Experience improving financial processes and implementing effective controls.
• Knowledge of GAAP and accounting best practices.
• Experience managing audits, tax compliance, and banking relationships.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
• Ability to work on-site in Charlottesville, VA.

Preferred

• CPA, CMA, or similar professional certification.
• Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
• Experience with CargoWise, QuickBooks, or similar accounting systems.
• Experience with treasury operations, working capital management, and executive-level financial reporting.
