Advocates is seeking a Mentor (DSP/1:1 Support Staff) to work with a gifted teenager with a developmental disability. In this critical role, you will help him learn key independent living skills, develop communication and social skills, and participate in social, recreational, and physical fitness opportunities within the community. This individual is a dedicated swimmer and is looking for a mentor who can assist with transportation to and from swim practices, encourage his involvement in the sport, and support him in achieving his personal goals both in and out of the pool.

The ideal candidate will be patient, dependable, and willing to provide positive encouragement while helping him engage in activities he enjoys. Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred but not required. Please respond with a resume or summary of experience.

Candidate must possess a keen sense of attention to detail, especially when electronically logging each day's time, mileage, and service documentation. DSP must have a valid email address.

Hours and days of work: Currently looking for 4 hours per week, scheduled on Tuesdays and Fridays from 3:30 PM - 5:30 PM. There is also an additional 4 hours per week available if the need arises for longer shifts or expanded services in the future.

Pay rate: $21.30 per hour when providing direct support. The hourly rate for indirect/training is $16 per hour.

Education & Experience:

• GED or High School Diploma preferred.
• Applicable job experience preferred.

Other: The individual does not have the authority to set the staff salary in this model. The Mentor is paid at the provider’s rate for the service based on an assessment of the specific support needs of the individual in the areas of behavioral support, communication support, and physical support needs.
