Job Description

Chief Executive Officer

Buffalo Medical Group

Buffalo Medical Group (BMG) is seeking an accomplished, collaborative, and forward-thinking Chief Executive Officer to lead one of Western New York's most established and respected physician-owned and physician-led healthcare organizations. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors and partnering closely with physician shareholders and organizational leaders, the CEO will have the unique opportunity to steward a proud legacy while positioning BMG for continued success in an increasingly complex healthcare environment.

For the past 80 years, Buffalo Medical Group has remained committed to a physician-led model of care built on collaboration, clinical excellence, patient-centered service, and community commitment. As one of the largest independent multi-specialty physician groups in the region, BMG has successfully maintained its independence while many physician organizations have consolidated into larger health systems or private equity-backed entities.

The next CEO will lead an organization recognized for its comprehensive, multi-specialty approach to care, supported by an engaged group of physician owners, an experienced leadership team, and a culture rooted in collaboration, accountability, and service.

The Board is seeking a leader who respects the organization's history and values while bringing the business acumen, strategic perspective, and healthcare expertise necessary to navigate evolving reimbursement models, physician workforce challenges, technological advancement, operational complexity, and changing patient expectations.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in advancing Buffalo Medical Group's strategic priorities, fostering physician engagement and alignment, and ensuring the organization remains well-positioned to thrive in an increasingly dynamic healthcare landscape.

Position Overview

The Chief Executive Officer serves as the senior executive leader of Buffalo Medical Group and is responsible for the overall management, strategic direction, operational performance, and financial sustainability of the organization. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the CEO partners closely with physician shareholders, the Medical Director, and the executive leadership team to advance the organization's mission while preserving its physician-led culture and independence.

A defining characteristic of this role is the close partnership between the CEO and Medical Director. Together, they provide complementary leadership that aligns the organization's business and clinical priorities, ensuring strategic decisions support both organizational performance and the delivery of exceptional patient care.

While the CEO provides leadership in business operations, finance, strategy, and organizational management, the Medical Director provides clinical leadership and perspective. Working collaboratively with physician shareholders and the executive leadership team, they foster alignment, build consensus, strengthen physician engagement, and advance a shared vision for Buffalo Medical Group's future.

Organization Overview

Founded in 1946, Buffalo Medical Group was established by four visionary physicians who believed collaborative group practice would provide better care than the traditional solo practice model, BMG has remained committed to delivering high-quality, coordinated, patient-centered care for eight decades. Today, Buffalo Medical Group consists of approximately 200 providers representing a broad range of medical and surgical specialties across multiple locations throughout Western New York.

Buffalo Medical Group's integrated physician-led care model is a defining strength of the organization. By bringing together primary care physicians, specialists, advanced practice providers, and administrative leadership in a highly collaborative environment, BMG delivers coordinated, comprehensive care across a broad continuum of services. This integrated approach enhances the patient experience, strengthens clinical quality and operational performance, supports value-based care initiatives, and reinforces the organization's long-standing commitment to independent, physician-led healthcare.
