ABOUT THE ROLE

10x Genomics is seeking a technically fluent, commercially minded market development leader to build the market for large-scale perturbation and single cell data among the organizations developing AI and foundation models for biology. These customers include AI-native biotechs, large pharma discovery and data science groups, and technology partners building virtual cell and related models.

The ideal candidate understands what model builders need from data: scale, perturbation design, quality, and consistency. They can explain to pharma discovery leaders why large-scale screens are the input that makes those models useful, and they know how to turn that conversation into adoption of 10x platforms.

This is a builder role in a new market with no established playbook. It suits someone who is entrepreneurial, credible with both machine learning and biology teams, and comfortable creating demand before the category is fully defined.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

MARKET & STRATEGY LEADERSHIP

• Define and own the market development strategy for AI driven science, with a focus on large-scale perturbation screens and drug discovery applications.
• Segment the market and size demand across AI-native biotech, pharma in-house AI teams, technology companies, and academic model builders.
• Identify the data requirements, use cases, and decision points that lead customers to buy large-scale single cell and perturbation data.
• Build competitive positioning and a point of view on where 10x data and platforms are the best input for model training and validation.

ECOSYSTEM DEVELOPMENT & KOL ENGAGEMENT

• Build relationships with AI-bio companies, pharma discovery and data science leaders, and technology and cloud partners.
• Shape and support partnerships, lighthouse collaborations, and benchmark or dataset programs that demonstrate the value of 10x data for model development.
• Develop thought leadership with customers and investigators through publications, conference presence, and advisory relationships.

CROSS-FUNCTIONAL LEADERSHIP

• Work with the commercial team to identify flagship accounts, build pipeline, and move large-scale screens opportunities through long sales cycles.
• Bring customer and market insight to Product, R&D, and Corporate Development to influence platform roadmap, scale, and partnership decisions.
• Partner with Marketing Communications to turn customer evidence into narrative, content, and sales enablement for pharma audiences.
• Work closely with the translational market development team so that discovery and translational customers are served coherently.

INSIGHTS, ANALYTICS & BUSINESS IMPACT

• Build an insights engine that tracks model builders, data purchases and public datasets, competitive offerings, and technology trends.
• Brief executive leadership regularly on market signals and strategic opportunities.
• Track and report impact metrics tied to pipeline creation, flagship accounts, partnerships, and revenue.

Qualifications

REQUIRED

• Advanced degree (PhD preferred) in genomics, computational biology, machine learning, molecular biology, or a related field.
• 7 to 10+ years of experience in AI-driven drug discovery, functional genomics, life science tools, or biopharma, including market development, business development, strategy, or commercial roles.
• Working knowledge of single cell technologies, CRISPR and perturbation screens, and how data feeds machine learning and foundation models.
• Established relationships with pharma discovery, data science, or AI-bio leaders, and the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
• Ability to build and execute a strategy in an undefined market and to work without a playbook.
• Excellent storytelling, executive communication, and cross-functional leadership skills.

PREFERRED

• Experience at an AI-native biotech, a technology or cloud company with a life sciences group, or a data or tools company selling to discovery teams.
• Experience structuring partnerships or data agreements with pharma or AI companies.
• Ability to hold credible conversations with machine learning scientists and biologists alike.

Below is the base pay range for this full-time position. The actual base pay will depend on several factors unique to each candidate, including one’s skills, qualifications, and experience. At 10x, base pay is also just one component of the Company’s total compensation package. This role is also eligible for 10x’s equity grants, its comprehensive health and retirement benefit programs, and its annual bonus program or sales incentive program. During the hiring process, your 10x recruiter can share more about the Company’s total compensation package.

Pay Range: $206,900- $279,900
