Are you a collaborative, forward-thinking engineering leader who’s passionate about building safer, smarter, more connected communities? Lincoln Transportation and Utilities (LTU) is seeking an Assistant City Engineer to help guide our Transportation Team in delivering exceptional service to the residents we proudly serve.
Responsible for providing senior-level professional engineering expertise, technical leadership, and strategic support across the Transportation team within Lincoln Transportation and Utilities (LTU). This position works collaboratively with the City Engineer, a fellow Assistant City Engineer, and Transportation management to address complex engineering, operational, and organizational challenges; advance departmental priorities; and support the effective delivery of transportation services and infrastructure improvements.
Specific responsibilities include technical engineering analysis and recommendations, capital improvement and operational support, infrastructure and asset management, strategic planning, program evaluation, resource and budget analysis, incident response coordination, and leadership of assigned initiatives. The position operates within a collaborative leadership structure in which two Assistant City Engineers provide complementary expertise across the Transportation team. Assignments are established based on organizational priorities, operational needs, and the professional strengths and experience of each Assistant City Engineer.
While the position does not have direct supervisory responsibility for assigned staff, it is expected to demonstrate the professional judgment, initiative, technical competence, communication, and leadership abilities necessary to influence outcomes and lead work across a complex municipal organization.
Hours: Monday - Friday; 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in civil engineering plus four years of experience in the practice of civil engineering in a responsible supervisory capacity; or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the desirable knowledge, abilities and skills.
Registration as a Professional Engineer. If registered in another state, must obtain State of Nebraska registration within six months of appointment.
