Job Summary

The Operations Manager is responsible for managing operational processes while implementing effective project control systems to monitor project performance overseeing daily operational activities while ensuring effective planning, monitoring, and control of projects. This role focuses on optimizing operational efficiency, projects meet cost, schedule, quality, and risk objectives while optimizing operational efficiency and resource utilization managing project schedules and budgets and implementing project control systems to ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget. The manager works closely with project teams, finance, and senior leadership to ensure operational excellence and successful project execution.

Key Responsibilities

Project Controls Management

• Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and cost forecasts.
• Monitor project progress, cost performance, and schedule adherence.
• Implement project control systems and reporting tools.
• Conduct variance analysis and recommend corrective actions.
• Oversee change management processes.
• Ensure compliance with project governance and control procedures.

Operations Management

• Manage and optimize daily operational activities.
• Ensure operational processes align with strategic business objectives.
• Improve operational efficiency and productivity.
• Monitor KPIs and operational performance metrics.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost reductions.

Planning & Scheduling

• Lead project planning sessions.
• Coordinate with project managers to develop detailed schedules and resource plans.
• Track milestones and deliverables.
• Maintain baseline schedules and updates.

Cost Control & Budget Management

• Track project expenditures vs budgets.
• Prepare cost reports and financial forecasts.
• Identify potential budget overruns and implement mitigation strategies.

Risk Management

• Identify operational and project risks.
• Develop risk mitigation plans.
• Monitor risk exposure throughout project lifecycle.

Reporting & Stakeholder Communication

• Prepare project performance reports for senior management.
• Present schedule, cost, and progress updates.
• Ensure clear communication between operations teams, project teams, and leadership.

Team Leadership

• Lead and mentor project control analysts, planners, and operations staff.
• Promote collaboration between operations and project management teams.
• Support professional development of team members.

Working Conditions

• Office-based with regular visits to operational or project sites.
• May involve working in environments requiring adherence to strict safety procedures.
• Occasional travel for inspections, audits, and training.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Project Management, or related field.
• 7–10+ years of experience in operations management or project controls.
• Strong knowledge of project management methodologies (e.g., Project Management Institute standards).
• Strong analytical and financial management skills.
• Professional certification such as PMP, PRINCE2, or Project Controls Certification is an advantage.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong leadership and team management abilities.
• Proficiency in project management and scheduling software (e.g., Primavera, MS Project).
• Strong financial and cost control knowledge.
• Excellent communication and reporting skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
