Job Description

Job Summary

The Mechanical Superintendent oversees mechanical construction, installation, and commissioning activities on industrial and oil & gas projects. The role is responsible for coordinating work crews and subcontractors, ensuring compliance with project schedules, quality requirements, safety standards, and applicable specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate mechanical construction activities, including equipment installation, piping, structural/mechanical works, and related systems.
  • Lead and manage mechanical crews, subcontractors, and specialist contractors.
  • Plan daily and weekly work activities and allocate manpower, equipment, and materials effectively.
  • Monitor project progress and ensure mechanical activities are completed according to the approved schedule.
  • Coordinate mechanical work with engineering, construction, QA/QC, HSE, commissioning, and other disciplines.
  • Review drawings, specifications, method statements, work packs, and technical documentation.
  • Ensure all mechanical work complies with approved drawings, project specifications, applicable codes, and quality requirements.
  • Coordinate inspections, testing, punch-list activities, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and system handover.
  • Identify construction issues, resolve technical problems, and coordinate corrective actions with relevant departments.
  • Monitor subcontractor performance, productivity, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Ensure proper use and availability of tools, equipment, materials, and resources.
  • Enforce company and project HSE requirements and promote a strong safety culture.
  • Participate in toolbox meetings, safety inspections, progress meetings, and coordination meetings.
  • Maintain accurate records of daily activities, manpower, progress, materials, and equipment.
  • Report progress, delays, technical issues, and resource requirements to the Construction Manager or Project Manager.
  • Support project completion, mechanical completion, turnover, and final handover activities.

Physical Requirements and Demands

  • Stand or sit for extended periods of time.
  • May be required to walk a plant facility or proposed project site, often climbing up, over and/or under obstacles.
  • Perform other physical movements such as to bend, stoop, reach, climb, etc., as necessary.

Requirements

Skills, Knowledge, Qualification, and Experience

  • Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Construction, or a related technical field.
  • Extensive experience in mechanical construction within industrial, petrochemical, refinery, power, or oil & gas projects.
  • Proven experience supervising mechanical construction crews and subcontractors.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical installation, piping, equipment erection, testing, and commissioning.
  • Good understanding of construction drawings, specifications, QA/QC requirements, and HSE standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, isometric drawings, layouts, and mechanical specifications.
  • Strong leadership, planning, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-pressure, project-driven environment.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry codes, standards, and safe work practices.
