Job Description

External & Internal Audit Manager

ZURU is looking for its External & Internal Audit Manager! If you thrive in ambiguity, process, and want to do it inside one of the fastest-growing consumer goods companies in the world keep reading!

About ZURU

ZURU is on a mission to disrupt across industries, challenge the status quo and catalyst change through radical innovation and automation advances. This is in play in different pillars of the company: ZURU Toys are re-imagining what it means to play; ZURU Tech is shaping a better future by leading the next building revolution; ZURU Edge is pioneering new generation FMCG brands to better serve modern consumers.

ZURU is one of the fastest growing consumer goods companies in the world. Started by two brothers in New Zealand twenty years ago, we now turn over NZ$6 billion, employ 5,000 people across 34 offices, and sell into more than 150 markets across six consumer verticals — toys, baby care, home care, beauty, confectionery and pet — plus our biggest opportunity yet, Housing Tech.

The role

This is the chance to own the global audit programme for one of the fastest growing consumer goods businesses in the world — from NZ! Based in our Auckland office and reporting to the Group Finance Director, you are the single operational owner of ZURU’s audit calendar: 50+ entities across more than 10 countries, one Group statutory audit run through to signed opinion, every local statutory audit and filing landed on deadline, and the outsourced provider network that prepares local statutory accounts.

You will also build ZURU’s internal audit programme from scratch across our factories and key transactional cycles. It is a Big 4 audit manager’s skillset applied in-house, at pace, with the mandate to redesign how audit is done here rather than simply administer it.

What you’ll own

  • Group statutory audit. The Group audit from planning to signed opinion — timetable, PBC lists, sample coordination, technical queries, audit adjustments and management letter points. You are the single point of contact for the Group auditor.
  • Local statutory audits and filings. Every in-scope entity across North America, Europe, LATAM, Asia and ANZ, tracked against its local filing deadline — with any at-risk filing escalated before it slips, not after.
  • Statutory accounts preparation. The third-party providers who prepare local statutory accounts: reviewing their output for accuracy before sign-off, and owning the local-GAAP-to-IFRS bridge and supporting documentation in every jurisdiction.
  • Provider management. The panel of outsourced statutory accounting and audit firms — scope, fees, service levels and annual review. Your mandate is to consolidate duplicated engagements and hold providers to the agreed timetable.
  • Internal audit programme. Building and running a standing internal audit cycle across factories, entities and transactional cycles — inventory, AP, payroll, revenue and treasury. You set the annual plan, execute the testing, write the findings and track remediation to closure.
  • Findings and remediation. Translating external and internal audit findings into specific control fixes with named owners and dates, and maintaining a live view of audit status, open findings and provider performance for the Group Finance Director and COO.
  • Audit readiness. Working alongside the financial accounting team in Shenzhen to make the close audit-ready by design — reconciliations, support files and technical memos prepared ahead of fieldwork rather than during it. Part of the job is lifting the technical capability of that team, not just reviewing their output.
  • No direct reports initially — you build the internal audit capability around you as the programme scales.

What we’re looking for

  • Qualified accountant (CA / ACA / ACCA / CPA) with 5–8 years in a Big 4 audit practice, at Manager or Senior Manager grade.
  • Multi-entity, multi-jurisdiction group audit experience under IFRS, including audits of overseas subsidiaries and coordination of component auditors.
  • Local statutory accounts across multiple jurisdictions, including local-GAAP-to-IFRS reconciliation and managing outsourced preparers.
  • Practical internal audit or controls testing experience — designing the test plan, running the fieldwork, and writing findings that result in real control changes.
  • FMCG or manufacturing audit exposure — inventory valuation, standard costing, high-volume transactional cycles.
  • Technical depth on complex transactions — you can own the accounting treatment and translate it into clear journal instructions.
  • A track record of applying AI and automation to audit, close and reporting — or a strong appetite and aptitude to lead it.
  • A hands-on operator who leads by example, with a problem-solving mindset.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment where continuous improvement is the norm.
  • Fluent English essential. Mandarin is useful given the Shenzhen-based team, but not essential.
  • Able to travel to China and Hong Kong two to four times a year.
