BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

On 26 August, a suspected Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) originating upstream of the Bhotekoshi River caused catastrophic flooding across Rasuwa and downstream districts. At least 1,114 people have died and about 4000 missing and an estimated 10,000 households in need of immediate assistance. WFP Nepal has an urgent need for support in various functions to drive coordination and relief efforts in response to the flood.

WFP Nepal has an urgent need for capable human resources to support the Rasuwa Flash Flood Emergency Response. To ensure a timely operational response, it is necessary to fill several positions on an expedited basis.

JOB PURPOSE

The incumbent will take high quality videos of the relief support provided and the recovery work that are planned to be carried out by the UN World Food Programme in the floods affected areas of Nepal. These materials will be edited and distributed together with press releases, reports as well as through the WFP Global website, social media channels and other various platforms. They will contribute to enhancing WFP’s visibility as well as the visibility of the donors who have generously contributed during this critical time, in the field and globally to support fundraising activities as well showcase WFP’s work and activities during this period. The selected candidate will be travelling to the areas where WFP is carrying our relief support and is planing to initiate recovery work as the relief support converts into recovery support.

Key Accountabilities:

Under the overall supervision of the Head of Partnerships, Communications and Reporting Unit and in collaboration with the Communications Associate, the incumbent shall carry out the following tasks:

• Shoot and submit high quality videos of key interventions in the format and style prescribed by WFP Headquarters and as per the need of WFP Nepal office.
• All videos should have background information in electronic format, specifically; location, situation details, WFP support in that area, name, age, occupation of the person photographed and a quote of a person about the situation and WFP’s assistance.
• Submit the best versions of the videos (raw and compiled) if required.
• Get consent for the use of videos from relevant persons/authorities using WFPs consent form.
• WFP staff must be allowed to actively take part in the editing of the video, at WFP’s office or the contractor’s studio.
• Continuously improvise editing techniques and best practices to maximize efficiency.
• WFP owns the copyright of all videos taken. WFP’s copyrighted video cannot under any circumstance be used for any other purpose without prior permission.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Education: Advanced University degree in communications, journalism, digital & creative media, filmmaking, multimedia, public information, or first University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or trainings/courses.

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE

At least five years of relevant professional experience in communications, videography, editing and interactive digital media, etc. Additional years of experience are an asset.
Experience in the deep field as well as working in emergency or humanitarian context will be considered an asset.
Good understanding of WFP or UN work.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

High level of Proficiency in videography
Languages: Fluency in both written and spoken English and Nepali language.
