Job Brief
We are looking for an experienced Head of Projects to lead the Planning, Designs & Construction unit and manage all building and renovation projects from start to finish. This person will plan, coordinate and supervise construction work across Harvester's locations, working with architects, engineers and contractors to keep every project on time and within budget.
Anticipation
Spot problems before they happen, and act fast when they do.
Interpretation
Make sure contractors fully understand drawings and instructions and remove ambiguity.
Reporting
Keep the Facility Manager and Building/Development Committee informed regularly, and flag decisions that need urgent attention.
Responsibilities
- Lead planning, design and construction of building projects from concept to handover.
- Work with architects, structural and M&E engineers to define project specifications.
- Engage and negotiate with contractors and vendors to reach fair agreements.
- Follow up on permits and approvals from relevant authorities.
- Plan manpower, equipment and materials needed for each project, within budget.
- Schedule project phases to meet deadlines.
- Supervise the Project Manager, Project Designer, Procurement Engineers and Contract Administrator.
- Evaluate progress and prepare status reports.
- Ensure health and safety standards are met on every site.
- Check drawings for errors or discrepancies and notify the architect.
- Witness tests required by the contractor or architect.
- Monitor use of specified construction techniques and materials.
- Report non-conforming work to the Facility Manager.
- Keep a diary of events, a drawing register, and a file of instructions received.
- Record delays and their causes.
- Coordinate site meetings and track deliverables.
- Take dated site photographs regularly.
Requirements
- At least 10 years' experience in construction project management.
- Strong understanding of construction procedures, materials and project management principles.
- Familiar with quality, health and safety standards.
- Working knowledge of MS Office, CAD, ArchiCAD or similar construction software.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
- Good organizational and time-management skills.
- A team player with leadership ability.
- BSc/BEng in Architecture, Civil/Structural Engineering or related field.
- PMP or equivalent certification is an advantage.
