Job Description

Overview

SKF is looking for an experienced Software Architect to play a key role in shaping the architecture, design, and technical direction of our digital products and platforms. The Software Architect will work closely with the software development teams, technical leaders, product managers, business stakeholders, and solution architects to design scalable, secure, maintainable, cost-efficient and future-ready software solutions that support SKF's strategic objectives.

This role requires a strong combination of hands-on software engineering expertise, architectural thinking, strategic vision, and excellent interpersonal skills. The successful candidate will influence technical decisions across multiple teams, promote engineering excellence, and ensure that software solutions balance business needs, technical quality, scalability, and long-term sustainability.

Software Architecture & Technical Leadership

  • Define and drive software architecture for complex products, services, and digital platforms.
  • Design scalable, secure, resilient, and maintainable software solutions aligned with SKF standards and business goals.
  • Lead architecture reviews, technical design sessions, and technology evaluations.
  • Establish and communicate software architecture principles, standards, design patterns, and best practices.
  • Ensure software solutions comply with cybersecurity, compliance, governance, reliability, and operational requirements.
  • Guide teams in adopting modern architectural approaches, including microservices, event-driven architectures, API-first design, domain-driven design, and cloud-native development.
  • Lead technical investigations, proof-of-concepts, technology assessments, and architecture spikes.
  • Promote reusability, modularity, testability, and maintainability across software products.
  • Define strategies for application modernization, technical debt management, and system evolution.

Software Engineering Partnership

Work closely with Software Engineers, technical leaders, QA Engineers, DevOps Engineers, Product Managers, and Business Stakeholders throughout the software development lifecycle.

  • Provide architectural guidance on application design, system integration, coding standards, performance optimization, and scalability considerations.
  • Mentor development teams on software architecture, design patterns, engineering practices, and clean code principles.
  • Support teams in making technical decisions while balancing delivery timelines and long-term architectural goals.
  • Drive engineering excellence through architecture governance, code quality initiatives, and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with DevOps teams to ensure reliable deployment strategies, observability, monitoring, and operational readiness.
  • Support modernization and migration efforts across applications, APIs, platforms, and data ecosystems.

Leadership Without Authority

Lead through influence, credibility, technical expertise, and collaboration rather than formal authority.

  • Drive adoption of software architecture standards, engineering best practices, and platform strategies across teams.
  • Create engagement and ownership by listening actively and incorporating diverse perspectives.
  • Coach and mentor engineers, technical leads, and development teams.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, engineering excellence, continuous learning, transparency, and accountability.
