Job Description

JOB PURPOSE

To assist in leading the execution of investment banking transactions for EDC Ghana’s corporate, financial institution and public sector clients across the AWA Region including mergers & acquisitions, equity and debt capital markets, and strategic advisory and contribute actively to origination. The Associate is expected to own transaction workstreams with limited day-to-day supervision, to review and challenge the work of Analysts before it leaves the team, and to be a credible day-to-day counterpart for clients, investors and advisers.

  • To assist in advising private and public companies on external growth transactions (acquisitions, disposals, equity investments and joint ventures)
  • To assist private and public companies in their external growth operations (sale and/or acquisition of companies, equity investments, etc.)
  • To advise top management or decision-makers (managers, shareholders, etc.) in the context of the mobilization of equity or quasi-equity resources through complex transactions.
  • To assist various clients on M&A and capital markets-related financial issues

JOB CONTEXT

Work in the Anglophone/Francophone hub to execute investment banking transactions (financial advisory, corporate finance and capital market deals). The incumbent is frequently requested to provide reliable information and analysis and is expected to stand behind it in front of clients, investors and internal committees.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Own and manage transaction workstreams from mandate through to closing
  • Manage due diligence processes end to end; coordinate lawyers, auditors, technical consultants and other advisers
  • Identify execution risks and issues
  • Manage the production of information memoranda, management presentations, data rooms and investor/lender processes
  • Build, review and challenge financial and transaction models
  • Prepare pitch books, proposals, term sheets, mandate letters, memorandums, teasers and marketing materials
  • Assist the Coverage bankers in marketing as and when required
  • Undertake advanced financial analysis and modelling using Excel or other tools, where required
  • Assist in due diligence and execution of transactions
  • Assist and support in transaction structuring
  • Develop a knowledge of specific sectors over time
  • Developing relationships with clients including gaining a good knowledge of the client’s businesses, economic drivers, market and sector requirements to ensure advice is relevant and commercial.
  • Source, establish market inference and interpret market data/information using valuation methodologies.
  • Supervise, coach and develop Analysts
  • Contribute to team infrastructure (model templates, precedent and comparables libraries, pitch materials and knowledge management)

CONNAISSANCES, COMPETENCES & EXPERIENCE

Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s/master’s degree in in finance, economics, engineering, mathematics or a related quantitative discipline, with a strong academic record
  • Minimum experience of 5-7 years in investment banking, private equity, transaction advisory, corporate finance or project and structured finance, with demonstrable personal execution of completed transactions
  • CFA, ACCA, CIIA, DSCG or an equivalent professional qualification is an advantage
