· Supervision and leadership of the excavation and reinstatement works team in the delivery of underground cable laying and duct work.
· Management of on-site Health & Safety matters.
· The post holder carries out the day-to-day running of the excavation and reinstatement works team and will be required to deal with any matters that may impede workflow and achieving daily delivery targets.
· The role must deal impartially with minor personnel problems and infringements as they arise. This role is a key liaison person for other sections to obtain services from the section including the work scheduling function. Work is carried out in a variety of environments including on the public roadways and in all weather conditions and reasonable fitness is required for on-site work and the carrying of heavy equipment.
· Guernsey Driving Licence.
· Minimum of 5 years demonstrable previous experience in a similar role.
· Ideally ‘Street Works’ qualified.
· Plant and machinery training and experience.
· First line management experience of small teams.
· Passport to Safety.
· Knowledge of Health & Safety requirements.
· Ability to solve problems and identify risks/issues before they arise.
· Ability to manage and motivate teams to meet operational delivery deadlines.
· Good interpersonal and communications skills.
· Basic IT skills.
· Must be able to undertake all aspects of the role including, but not limited to heavy lifting.
It is the sole provider of electrical energy in Guernsey and is wholly owned by the island’s government, combining the importation of electricity with local power generation and distribution. It also undertakes electrical contracting and retailing and is a partner in a joint venture which operates the transmission company connecting the Channel Islands to France. It has a turnover of £55 million and the company has a major capital expenditure programme over the next 5 years in developing and upgrading key parts of its infrastructure.
