We are seeking an experienced Electrical Lead to take overall responsibility for the safe and successful delivery of the electrical scope on a major data centre project, from design coordination and procurement through construction, energisation, commissioning and final handover.
Role Purpose
As a member of the Project Leadership Team, the Electrical Lead is accountable for electrical safety, quality, programme, cost and technical delivery. The role leads the electrical organisation and works closely with Design, Procurement, Construction, Commissioning, QA/QC, HSE, Commercial and Client teams to achieve a coordinated and fully operational handover.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Delivery
- Take overall ownership of the electrical package throughout the project lifecycle.
- Lead the electrical management, engineering, supervision and subcontractor teams, setting clear priorities and performance expectations.
- Act as the primary escalation point for electrical matters and drive timely resolution of delivery constraints.
- Promote a strong safety, quality, accountability and delivery culture across the electrical organisation.
Design, Procurement & Technical Management
- Coordinate electrical design development with the Design Manager, consultants, specialist contractors and client representatives.
- Review technical submittals, coordinated drawings, equipment schedules, specifications and installation proposals.
- Manage procurement, delivery and installation readiness for electrical systems, long-lead equipment and OFCI packages.
- Ensure RFIs, design changes, technical queries and field engineering issues are resolved in line with programme requirements.
Construction Planning & Interfaces
- Lead construction planning, sequencing, phasing, resource planning and workfront readiness for the electrical scope.
- Manage interfaces with Mechanical, CSA, Integrated Systems, Logistics, Design, Procurement and Commissioning teams.
- Monitor subcontractor progress, productivity, staffing and performance against the baseline programme.
- Identify and mitigate risks relating to design, access, materials, resources, installation and system turnover.
Electrical Systems Scope
- HV/MV and LV power distribution, including transformers, switchgear and protection systems.
- Generators, UPS systems, batteries, busbar and associated critical power infrastructure.
- Earthing, bonding, lightning protection, lighting, emergency lighting and small power systems.
- Electrical metering, monitoring interfaces, controls interfaces and associated containment and cabling.
- Electrical completion, energisation, testing, commissioning and handover.
Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Ensure all works comply with project HSE requirements, permits, safe systems of work, specifications, codes and client standards.
- Drive electrical QA/QC performance through approved inspection and test plans, benchmarks, inspections and testing records.
- Manage quality issues, non-conformances, snagging and punch-list closure.
- Ensure electrical safety and quality documentation is complete and ready for final handover.
Commercial & Project Controls
- Manage package performance across labour, subcontractors, materials, plant, equipment and variations.
- Work with the Commercial team on tender evaluations, valuations, change control, forecasting and final account activities.
- Monitor progress, productivity and earned value against project targets.
- Provide clear reporting on progress, costs, resources, risks, procurement status and recovery actions.
Testing, Energization & Handover
- Lead electrical completion, inspection, testing, energisation readiness and commissioning coordination.
- Develop and manage safe, controlled and documented energisation plans with the Commissioning and HSE teams.
- Coordinate system turnover, functional testing and participation in Integrated Systems Testing.
- Ensure test records, as-built drawings, O&M manuals, training information and turnover packages are complete and accurate.
- Lead close-out of outstanding electrical works and support final handover to the client and operations teams.
Qualifications & Experience
- Recognized electrical trade qualification and/or degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience delivering electrical systems on major construction projects, including at least 5 years in an Electrical Lead, Electrical Manager or comparable leadership role.
- Proven experience delivering large electrical packages from design and procurement through construction, energization, commissioning and handover.
- Strong technical knowledge of HV/MV and LV distribution, transformers, generators, UPS systems, switchgear, busbar, earthing and protection systems.
- Experience managing electrical subcontractors, specialist vendors, multidisciplinary interfaces and client-supplied equipment.
- Good understanding of programme, procurement, commercial management, change control and project risk.
- Strong leadership, planning, communication and stakeholder-management skills.
- Fluent English and the ability to perform effectively in a demanding project environment.
Desirable Criteria
- Data centre, mission-critical, semiconductor, pharmaceutical or advanced-technology project experience.
- Experience managing major electrical packages and complex energization programmes in live or operational environments.
- Knowledge of BIM, Revit, Navisworks and digital construction platforms.
- Chartered Engineer status or equivalent professional accreditation.
