Elections Alberta is an independent, non-partisan office of the Legislature responsible for administering provincial elections, by-elections, and referenda. Our mission is to serve Albertans as an independent election management body committed to the administration of modern, transparent, and accessible democratic processes that ensure the integrity and enhance the value of Alberta’s electoral system.
We are a small, high-performing team doing work that genuinely matters – keeping Alberta's democratic process modern, transparent, and accessible. If you like variety, take pride in your craft, and want your work to mean something beyond the ticket queue, you will fit right in here.
Note: This is a temporary position covering a leave of absence, expected to last up to 15 months.
Reporting to the Director, Technology Platforms and Innovation, the IT Operations Lead is a technically hands-on senior role responsible for the operational delivery of IT services across Elections Alberta. You will own our hybrid Azure and on-premises environment, lead the implementation and ongoing management of our IT Service Management (ITSM) solution, manage end-to-end IT procurement and asset lifecycle, and ensure our technology is operationally ready to support provincial electoral events that can mobilize over 20,000 temporary staff across Alberta.
This role requires hands-on management and active involvement in daily operations rather than managing or delegating from a distance. You will be expected to engage directly in infrastructure configuration, system administration, and hands-on problem resolution, while also directing an IT Operations Analyst, a managed service provider (MSP), and surge resources during election events.
A cover letter is required. Applications without a cover letter will not be considered. In your cover letter, please briefly summarize your relevant experience and expertise, pertinent strengths and skills, and your reasons for interest in the position.
A post-secondary degree in computer science or a related discipline plus four years of related experience, or equivalencies. (A related two-year diploma in computer technology or a related discipline from a recognized post-secondary institution and six years of related experience; or a related one-year certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution and seven years of related experience.)
You are a hands-on technical leader with demonstrated experience in infrastructure administration, cloud operations, and endpoint management. You solve complex problems directly, communicate clearly at all levels, and know how to manage both people and vendors. You bring:
