OVERVIEW AND PURPOSE OF YOUR ROLE
The Revenue Controller is responsible for safeguarding, monitoring, and accurately reporting all revenue streams generated by Bahrain Surf Park including surf operations, F&B, retail, memberships, events, sponsorships, and ancillary activities. The role ensures completeness of revenue, compliance with IFRS and VAT requirements, prevention of revenue leakage, and delivery of timely management reporting.
Reporting directly to the Finance Manager, you will serve as the primary financial safeguard across all commercial revenue centers, auditing daily settlement flows, verifying deferred revenue, monitoring system overrides, and collaborating with cross-functional operational teams to protect company turnover.
WHAT YOU DO:
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Daily Revenue Reconciliation & Settlement Verification
- Multi-Channel Reconciliation: Perform daily cross-system reconciliations between POS terminals, ticketing software, online booking engines, cash collections, credit card settlements, and bank deposits.
- Revenue Completeness: Audit daily income feeds across all park channels (surf bookings, food & beverage, retail, memberships, event bookings, sponsorships, and ancillary guest activities) to guarantee 100% revenue capture.
- Gateway & Merchant Audits: Verify credit card gateway settlements, payment aggregator reports, and electronic wallet clearing accounts against bank statements.
Revenue Assurance, Audit & Leakage Prevention
- Transaction Exception Audits: Conduct rigorous daily audits of discounts, refunds, voids, complimentary transactions, price adjustments, and manager system overrides.
- Leakage Control: Investigate revenue discrepancies, missing tickets, unrecorded sales, or unauthorized rate adjustments, implementing corrective action to prevent loss.
- System Controls & Permissions: Routinely review POS authorization levels, pricing matrices, and discount rules to ensure compliance with financial authority delegation.
Deferred Revenue, Memberships & Advance Bookings
- Revenue Recognition: Track, account for, and recognize income in full compliance with IFRS 15 (Revenue from Contracts with Customers).
- Membership Accounting: Audit and manage deferred revenue schedules for annual/monthly park memberships, package bookings, and gift vouchers, ensuring accurate monthly amortization.
- Advance Booking Tracking: Reconcile advance guest deposits for corporate events, surf group bookings, and cabana rentals against actual consumption.
Financial Reporting & Variance Analysis
- Management Dashboards: Compile and present daily, weekly, and monthly revenue performance reports, commercial dashboards, and key metric tracking.
- Variance & Yield Analysis: Conduct monthly variance analysis comparing actual yield, average rate per guest, and channel revenue against approved budgets and forecasts.
- Commercial Insights: Highlight commercial trends, peak revenue hours, channel mix profitability, and pricing strategy performance to senior management.
Month-End Closing, Ledger & VAT Compliance
- Journal Entry Preparation: Prepare and post monthly revenue journal entries, accruals, and deferred income adjustments into the ERP system.
- Balance Sheet Reconciliations: Perform month-end balance sheet reconciliations for revenue-related clearing accounts, guest ledgers, deferred income, and VAT output accounts.
- VAT Compliance: Review sales transactions to ensure accurate Value Added Tax (VAT) application in compliance with Kingdom of Bahrain tax regulations and file supporting schedules.
- Audit Co-ordination: Serve as the main point of contact for internal and external auditors for all revenue streams, maintaining audit trails and supporting schedules.
Operational Collaboration & Cross-Functional Support
- Departmental Alignment: Coordinate closely with front desk operations, F&B outlet managers, retail teams, event coordinators, and sales teams on revenue handling and billing policies.
- Process Improvement: Continuously recommend enhancements to POS workflows, ticketing configurations, and cash-up protocols to streamline revenue collection.
Required Qualification
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Commerce (Required).
- Professional accounting credentials (e.g., ACCA, CPA, CMA) are a strong advantage.
- Fluent in English; Arabic fluency is a strong advantage.
Required Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of dedicated experience in revenue accounting, revenue control, or financial analysis.
- Proven background within hospitality, entertainment, leisure, tourism, or multi-outlet commercial environments.
- Strong track record in multi-channel POS reconciliation, deferred revenue schedules, and IFRS revenue recognition.
Required Professional Skills and Attributes
- Software Proficiency: Advanced Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, complex formulas, financial modeling), ERP systems (Zoho Books / Zoho Finance experience is a strong added advantage), and POS/ticketing platforms.
- Financial Mastery: Thorough understanding of IFRS revenue standards, VAT accounting principles, revenue assurance techniques, and auditing methods.
- Core Competencies: Strong analytical thinking, uncompromising integrity, acute attention to detail, polished communication skills, functional leadership, structured problem solving, and sharp commercial awareness.
Required Personal Qualities
- High degree of ethics, objectivity, and firmness when auditing controls and system overrides.
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to partner effectively with operational managers to resolve accounting variances.
- High speed, precision, and organization when working under tight month-end financial deadlines.
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPIS)
- Reconciliation Timeliness: 100% completion of daily POS, booking engine, and bank reconciliations by the established daily deadline.
- Audit Accuracy: Zero high-risk audit findings or material misstatements in revenue accounts during internal and external audits.
- Deferred Revenue Integrity: 100% accurate monthly amortization and reconciliation of membership and advance booking deferred accounts.
- Leakage Resolution: Timely audit of 100% of voids, discounts, and overrides, resolving exceptions within 24 hours of flag.
- VAT Compliance: Zero penalty notices or errors in revenue VAT filings and output calculations.
